would you travel...?

It's this time of the year again. Do you travel on fast days?

DH has not consulted his diary and booked a flight coming back to London on 17 Tammuz. We won't finish tzum till 22:21 (bad enough we start at ung-dly hour of 01:24).

On a separate thread, anyone going to Bratislava for Gerrer Rebbe audience?

Sometimes you do what you gotta do.

I have also flown on 17 Tammuz. Flew TLV-EWR. Don't remember why, but it wasn't that bad. Where are you flying to and from? The fast starts where you are, but once you land, if going east, does not continue. (Meaning if you land in NYC from TLV at say 16:00 where in Israel it's 23:00, then the fast is over for you.

Isn't that "Torah lo bashomayim hee"??

G-d is everywhere..you MUST know the Chabad song:

Hashem is here, Hashem is there, Hashem is truly everywhere.
Up up, down down, right left and all around
Here there and everywhere that's where He can be found!

Actually, it didn't work out quite as well as I hoped. Sof Taanis was about 1800 and we took off at about 1700, which in theory was OK - the sun was just setting. But after we took off and gained altitude and flew NorthWest, erm, the sun rose again.

Wasn't too bad - waited an extra our and is was pretty dark by then. Still "quids in" wrt London timings.

I suppose I could have relied on the Chazon Ish opinion that once one leaves Australia (at ground level) it actually becomes the previous day in the Jewish calendar (due to Halachic / International Date Line issues) but that's a debateable issue, so wasn't prepared to give myself a Heter to do that!

El Al does serve meals, but no entertainment.
Some historical videos.

Flying to Aaretz is the best on fast days - makes it around a 14 hour fast.
