Just booked this hotel for 2 nights (only 30K per night!) in august. The property appears to be brand new and fairly expensive US$250+ so the redemption value is excellent.

Does anyone know anything about it?

Wanted to stay here next week but was booked out. Any one know what's going on in Lucerne from 15-17 February? Almost the entire city is booked solid...

Edit: Found it, it is the international Cable Congress 2011... I think they mean TV cable's as UPC is a sponsor.
Luckily my client booked my hotel this time hope it won't be to expensive...

Reporting back after my stay last week. The hotel was packed with "cable hooligans" :D from the conference next door. Even tough the hotel was full, it still felt quite large and airy. Check in was very friendly but no mention of my GPP gold status she did say she had the number on file, but nothing posted jet. Rooms were a bit on the small side but for Lucern standards pretty nice. The room and bathroom are separated by a blinded glass door, which I'm not a big fan of. The bar was quite nice but still headed over to Mr Pickwick club for a beer and to watch the football. Check in was also very fast with no wait.

I would stay here again if the price is right.

The hotel description said it is right on the lake. What kind of view did you have from your room? How is access by public transport from Geneva Airport?

While it is "on"/near the lake, most rooms have a view of the industrial office area or the railway station. Access from Geneva should be great as the hotel is right next to the large railway station.

The hotel is not in the Old town, but is a 5-10 minute walk from there. In any other town I would try to stay in the old town where everything is happening, but from some reason hotels in Luzern are very expensive and as a whole a lot of them have quite low standards. I have tried many hotels but this is one of the best that is still a bit affordable.

If you can get the Radisson on points its a great deal, but they often ask over 300chf per night which is a to much. I usually go to Luzern on business and then the hotel is perfect, for a vacation I'd try to look at other "old town" hotels first but the Radisson is still a fine hotel.

If you need any more advice about Luzern hotels, or what there is to do let me know!

I personally think for you the Hotel des Balances should fit the bill. It is by many regarded as one of the best hotels in Lucerne. I have only had lunch there but the location is amazing, right on the lake with fantastic views! It can be quite expensive but for anyone's first time in Luzern I would highly recommend it. At the least be sure to have lunch here at the lakeside, its amazing!

I would also recommend the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern. I have not personally stayed there but have been in it and it looks very nice.

If you are looking for old time luxury the Grand Hotel National Luzern might be could be a option, it is a 10 minute walk form the old town but is right on the lake with great views. The rooms are amazing, but you'd miss out a bit on the atmosphere of the old city center.

The Renaissance Lucerne just opened in 2011, it is also not in the old town but quite close, plus you would be able to collect points.

When I'm in Luzern and am on a bit of a budget (if there is something like budget in Switzerland) I try to get a good deal at the Ameron Hotel Flora (formally Best Western Flora) they renovated it a few years ago and it is quite a decent hotel.

The NH hotel in Old Town Luzern is also OK. but would not recommend it for any stay longer than two nights.

Be sure not to choose for the Hotel Ambassador or de La Paix, these are really appaling!

Mainly locals go there and its a great place to eat Swiss food, try the rösti!

For a drink in the evening, the "Hotel Mr. Pickwick" pub is highly recommended, especially on a football evening!

Thomas, awesome post. I've printed it out for my trip planning file. Absolutely superb information. I hadn't known about the Ren, and that is a consideration if I don't succumb to old world charm. I will also stay at the Hilton Evian, right across the lake. I went to Montreux on business, and fell in love with the area. This part of the world is spectacularly beautiful.

SanDiego1K, did you ever take this trip? Where did you end up staying at?

It's a fall trip. It's nice to have something to anticipate.

I can't believe there aren't many more posts about this hotel. I made a 4 night booking at this hotel to burn through my stash or carlson points before the devaluation. I know this is not an amazing hotel but it will suffice for me.

Anybody know how much parking costs at this hotel? Also, I will be travelling with a 18 mo child. We were thinking that public transit will be too much to do with kids. Do you guys recommend driving?

I have no idea how much parking costs; but, I wouldn't recommend driving.

The hotel basically abuts the main train station and almost all of the primary tourist attractions (including trains & boats) are within 15 minutes walking. What sights/attractions are you interested in visiting that you would drive to? Almost everything you'll likely want to do will be walking or boat/train.

Last year i was travelling in the area again, this time with small kids so i booked two rooms and emailed them requesting connector.
They refused claiming that connecting rooms are subject to availability at check in. Needless to say that i cancelled and stayed elsewhere.
This was the only time in my extensive international travel with kids a property refused to confirm connecting rooms when contacted in advance...

Stayed here for two nights. They upgraded both rooms to lake view (beautiful sight) and Concierge status got me free breakfast for four adults.

Location was perfect- we were traveling from Milan and stopped at the Luzern station, which is a short 5-10 min walk from the hotel. (safe area, you walk in front of a university and there are a few shops outside right by the hotel and ample restaurants in the train station) Old Town and the bridge is right in front of the train station and walkable from the hotel.

It feels like they cater to business clientele, but my family and I enjoyed our stay in the hotel.

Had a nice 2 night stay here on points - booked before the deval at 75k points for 2 nights, including breakfast. The hotel restaurant, Luce, was very good, especially for dinner. Here is some info and pics:
