Newbie question- Difference between Blu and Red
 

Hi All ! I am a total Radisson newbie . I don’t really understand the difference(s) between Blu and Red. Is one brand more luxurious than the other ? Different amenities? Any information greatly appreciated. Thanks

With the help of Wikipedia, and some knowledge of my own, here’s a bit more of a concept description for both:

Radisson Blu is a full service brand, mainly located in major cities, key airport gateways and leisure destinations. It is described as an "upper upscale" hotel brand.

Radisson Red is more of a select service brand, targeted to guests with an "ageless millennial mindset", incorporating more art, music and fashion into its services and offerings with a focus on communal spaces such as the bars and lobbies, digital customer service, and bold color interiors. It has its own branded restaurant, called OUIBAR, and is marketed more at millennials. The brand's emphasis is on modern design, technology, and quick food service.

I've stayed at Blu's, but only the one Red in Miami. Think of Red as a W Hotel and Blu as a Westin. Red is a bit trendier, whereas Blu is stylish and upper-mid-scale.

This strikes me as a very aspirational comparison - Red is Aloft, not W, and Blu is probably more Marriott/Sheraton. All will be four star typically rather than five.

Is there a luxury brand in the Radisson portfolio ?

Radisson Collection is the high end brand in the portfolio, although I’ve never actually stayed at one. Seems to be positioned somewhere around a Conrad type level but often in more historic buildings.

I can't agree with the Skift characterization of the brands, it skews too upmarket for most all brands.


Radisson Collection is the only luxury part of the portfolio.

It's the same idea as Curio or Tapestry by Hilton, Vignette by IHG or Luxury collection of Marriott - 5* properties which maintain their own identity rather than being closer to a brand standard.
There's not many of them and not all seem to be true luxury properties.

Skift places Blu in the same Luxury/Upper Upscale category, which does not ring true.

Blu hotels are solid 4 stars, but not real 5 stars, even though I have to admit some swing above their category. All in all I enjoy the brand very much. Dependable hotels.

Red hotels I have not had the pleasure to try. There's only 17 of those and that's including those that are opening soon. Seems to be positioned somewhat lower than Blu, and here, I can largely agree with the Skift suggestion that it's Moxy but less annoying. Closer to Aloft. Maybe voco by IHG, but a bit more in your face.
