Radisson Blu, Yaroslaviv Val vul 22, Kiev, Ukraine

What is your Club Carlson status?
Concierge

Where did you stay?
Radisson Blu, Yaroslaviv Val vul, Kiev, Ukraine

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard room on a weekend extend for two nights and got double upgrade to a junior suite.

Did you receive elite benefits?
- Room upgrade: Yes to a junior suite on 6th floor
- Early Check In: Not required
- Late Check Out: Not required
- In-Room Welcome Gift: 1bottle of water each day and a selection of chef made Parmesan tuiles, a selection of crackers and some smetana (sour cream) with fresh dill and a plum.

How are the rooms?

Nice size, maybe getting a little old-fashioned now. Two TVs, separate sitting area with three piece suite.

What was good, what was bad?
Good: location. Near to the main sites like St Sophia Cathedral, the Golden Gate and Maidan Square. Reasonably priced food in restaurant and room service.

Bad: the air con was incredibly loud and couldn't be switched off from the wall box. Even at lower setting it sounded like the engine room of the Titanic. I had to get someone up who showed me how to turn it off by flicking the switch at the fuse box (the one on the far right).

Room service food was a bit cold the first night I ordered it and the minestrone soup which was supposed to have beans had neither beans nor pasta.

Bar quite small and really just the entrance area to the restaurant.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

On a weekend extend with one free night, the cost was Ł185 in total but had I to book the room without status it would have been Ł370 which I think given the fact that the hotel is becoming a little dated is a bit steep. The hotel is supposedly 5* I have stayed in better 4* ones. I think next time I would try the Podil Radisson Blu to see what it is like.

Tip

Taxis tend to be without meters and drivers don't speak English much so if you don't speak Russian or Ukrainian there is potential for rip off. I downloaded a taxi app called Uklon which allows you to order a taxi in English, gives you a (very fair) price for the trip and sends you the reg no of the car that is coming to collect you. Don't use the hotel car - they quote €55 for the trip to the airport

- Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country) Also put in the post title.
Radisson Paper Valley, Appleton, WI, USA

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Generally pretty happy. I stayed here six nights a month for about a year. Staff is excellent. Interior is pretty dated if you don't get upgraded to concierge suite. Upgrades are pretty common as long as the Green Bay Packers are not playing that week.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Book lowest level room and regularly received concierge upgrade.

- Did you receive elite benefits?
Yes. Chocolate bar upon check in is about it.

Radisson Blu Plaza, Bangkok, Thailand

What is your Club Carlson status?
Concierge

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Plaza, Bangkok, Thailand

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes, very nice hotel apart from the "upgrade". We had two stays here - three days one week and then a further two days the following week.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room (styled "deluxe" in the hotel), we received a "Grande Deluxe" room which is a standard "deluxe" room but just situated on a higher floor.

Between visits I emailed reservations to say that this seemed to be a Gold upgrade and that Concierge members were entitled to a "next category or a standard suite" (I quoted from the
t/cs page) but even after I asked for a standard suite I just got the same reply "we are pleased to upgrade you to a Grande deluxe room".

Strictly speaking they were within the Club Carlson rules, but the hotel was clearly not busy and there were suites available when I checked online. I would have been happy with a larger Business Class room but instead of Radisson Blu "Yes I can!" I was getting "No I won't!"

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room
Upgrade - Yes - but see above
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required first stay, on second visit was given a 18:00 check-out (although this is advertised as standard if the room is available)
In-Room Welcome Gift - Yes - an exotic fruit bowl and letter in room on each occasion

How are the rooms?
Beautiful room with a chaise sofa and reasonable size bathroom. King size bed - very comfortable.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:

Within walking distance from Asok/Sukhumvit station, sumptuous hotel it certainly has the Radisson Blu "wow" factor. They let us leave one suitcase for four nights while we were in Phuket. All the staff were very helpful and courteous.

Bad:
The weakest possible acknowledgement of my Concierge status.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

It's the most expensive of the Club Carlson properties in Bangkok, though I did a points and cash booking which reduced the price. I won't stay here again because of the poor Concierge status recognition. Next time I'll stay at the nearby Park Plaza Sukhumvit which gave me a decent upgrade last time I was there.

Radissons and Country Inns and Suites in California on points

What is your Club Carlson status?
Concierge
============================
Where did you stay?
Radisson Suites Hotel Buena Park, CA, USA

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard 2Q room on points for 3 nights, received as booked

Did you receive elite benefits?
- Room upgrade: No
- Early Check In: Not required
- Late Check Out: Not required
- In-Room Welcome Gift: 2 bottles of water, microwave popcorn and 2 granola bars
- Free breakfast: yes, not sure if it was included in rate

How are the rooms?
Good: Large suites with comfortable beds and a living room with a small kitchenette. Bedding and towels seemed clean, decent bathroom amenities provided.
Bad: oh my. The room had a strong musty smell, very dirty carpet and tired furniture. The sofa bed was stained, dirty and terribly worn out - I doubt it's any good for sleeping. Main room door was very thin and you could hear everything outside, with weird blinds that barely closed. Thankfully the bedroom has a second door that works quite well. In case I got one of the better rooms as a Concierge, I'd be scared to see some of the worse rooms.

What was good, what was bad?

Good: location near Disneyland. The pool is nice and the inner courtyard of the hotel is pretty. Breakfast buffet is OK with a few hot options.

Bad: the breakfast buffet was decent, but the cheap plastic plates and cutlery really spoiled it. Elevators had a temporary safety permit. We didn't feel like using any other hotel services after experiencing the room and breakfast.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

I think that 28,000 gold points with breakfast for a night in the area is still a good value, even with the experience that we had with no upgrade in the rundown hotel. Just need to have low expectations and not stay too long.
This hotel was the worst of Carlson hotels that we stayed at during this trip, made even more disappointing because it could have been very nice if maintained properly. Wouldn't return unless needed to visit the exact area for a short time.

Where did you stay?
Country Inn & Suites San Diego North, CA, USA

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard King's on points for 1 night, received suite

Did you receive elite benefits?
- Room upgrade: Yes, suite
- Early Check In: Not required
- Late Check Out: Not required
- In-Room Welcome Gift: 2 bottles of water, granola bars, cookies, gummy bears,
- Breakfast: included in rate

How are the rooms?
Good: Large suite, clean
Bad: nothing

What was good, what was bad?

Good: good service and breakfast, friendly staff, Chili's next to the hotel. The pool and hot tub are nice.
Bad: location is a bit away from San Diego.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
38,000 points seem a bit pricey for CI&S, but we were happy. Would book to return but keep looking for better deals in the area.

Where did you stay?
Radisson Hotel Whittier, CA, USA

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard King's on points for 1 night, received junior suite

Did you receive elite benefits?
- Room upgrade: Yes, junior suite
- Early Check In: Not required
- Late Check Out: Not required
- In-Room Welcome Gift: 2 bottles of water, some fruit and cake
- Free breakfast: got coupons for full american for both of us

How are the rooms?
Good: Huge suite, very large and comfortable bed, clean
Bad: nothing

What was good, what was bad?

Good: good service and tasty breakfast, the location seemed good. Didn't try the pool but it looked nice.
Bad: the full american breakfast was tasty and the waiters were friendly and quick, but they did the bare minimum once it turned out that we had coupons. It's a bit annoying when juice refills are loudly offered to all other tables next to us.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
28,000 points are very good for what we got and would certainly return. Wouldn't rely on a suite upgrade as we were staying a single Sunday night in a business hotel, but even then this hotel is much much nicer than the equally priced hotel at Buena Park.

Where did you stay?
Country Inn & Suites Fresno North, CA, USA

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked 2 standard King's on points for 1 night, received 2 suites (even the other couple without membership)

Did you receive elite benefits?
- Room upgrade: Yes, suite
- Early Check In: Not required
- Late Check Out: Not required
- In-Room Welcome Gift: 2 bottles of water, granola bars, some sweets. Had to ask because they hand these out when checking-in and forgot - staff very apologetic.
- Breakfast: included in rate

How are the rooms?
Good: Large suite, very large and comfortable bed, clean and fresh rooms
Bad: nothing

What was good, what was bad?

Good: location easy to reach, heated indoor pool and hot tub(unfortunately rather ugly).
Bad: breakfast area is tiny and the only elevator is slow.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
15,000 for a suite is great even in Fresno. Would certainly return to this nice and fresh hotel.

Where did you stay?
Country Inn & Suites San Carlos, CA, USA

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked 2 standard King's on points for 2 nights, received 2 suites (even the other couple without membership, and they got a slightly better room)

Did you receive elite benefits?
- Room upgrade: Yes, suite
- Early Check In: Not required
- Late Check Out: Not required
- In-Room Welcome Gift: 2 bottles of water, granola bars.
- Breakfast: included in rate

How are the rooms?
Good: Large suite, very large and comfortable bed, clean and fresh rooms
Bad: nothing

What was good, what was bad?

Good: easy to find, very nice lobby and great buffet breakfast (better than the previous CI&S).
Bad: pool not heated and uninspiring.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
44,000 is quite pricey for a CI&S but I guess that's adequate for the location. Would book to return, but keep checking for deals in the area.

Where did you stay?
Radisson Santa Maria, CA, USA

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked 1 standard 2Qs on points for 1 night, received as booked

Did you receive elite benefits?
- Room upgrade: No. Hotel looked busy.
- Early Check In: Not required
- Late Check Out: Not required
- In-Room Welcome Gift: no
- Free breakfast: buffet breakfast for 4, but due to hotel error. When first checking in, I enquired and the rather unfriendly check-in agent said that breakfast is for the Concierge member only and $13 each for my fellow 3 travelers. After a while when inquiring about my missing welcome gift to another much nicer check-in agent, she gave the rest of the party coupons as well.

How are the rooms?
Good: Clean rooms and comfy beds
Bad: weak ventilation in rooms

What was good, what was bad?

Good: large pool where it's possible to actually swim for a bit and a nice hot tub. Breakfast buffet was good and I'd say it's worth the $13
Bad: felt slightly unwelcome at check-in.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
38,000 points seem appropriate with breakfast, would return

Park Plaza Victoria, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes. Old fashioned hotel in need of a makeover but it provided a comfortable one night stay

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room got upgrade to Urban Suite bedroom and separate living room.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required

How are the rooms?
King size bed - very comfortable. Furniture getting a bit old fashioned

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Location. Across the road from Amsterdam Centraal Station.

All the staff were very helpful and courteous.

Bad:
The hotel is in two parts. The Victoria side is the 19th century wing the Urban wing is the 20th century building. They are linked by a short bridge on the first floor so to get to my room I had to take a lift to first floor, walk over the bridge then get another lift.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

Stay was 50,000 points. Probably a bit on the expensive side.

Booked standard double room, got superior with riverside view.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Room Upgrade - Yes
Gift in room - No
Early check in and late check out - Not needed

How are the rooms?
Room was clean and comfortable. It's apparent the interior is past mid-point in renovation cycle but we didn't mind.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Breakfast, friendly service.

Bad: Location just outside what I'd consider the city center. Most alternatives are better located.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Very good value for money, especially with the 2for1 offer. Price being equal might also try a more central alternative from some other chain for a similar weekend trip.

Radisson Suite Hotel Oceanfront, Melbourne, Florida

Radisson Suite Hotel Oceanfront
Concierge

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Suite Hotel Oceanfront, Melbourne, Florida

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard guest room using credit card annual certificates and 44k per night. Received family room with wet bar, microwave and fridge.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes, but all rooms are oceanfront and suites, so even with orbitz you will get it.
Early Check In/Late Check Out - No early available, 1pm late checkout
In-Room Welcome Gift - Yes, welcome letter, 2 bottles of water, fruit basket.

How are the rooms?
ALL rooms are very spacious, All suite hotel, all rooms have balconies, all rooms are ocean front. In good shape. Recently renovated. Absolutely no complaints with room. AC was great. Floor to ceiling windows with perfect sunrise views. Nighttime star gazing.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Suites with sofa bed, wet bar, balconies. This is the closest hotel to the water that I have stayed in. It is on the beach, and yards from the water. You can hear roaring waves. Supermarket across hotel. Good wifi.

Rooms are in good shape, staff is very friendly.

Bad: Concierge free breakfast just offered to member, not to everyone in room. This irks me, first day had mediocre breakfast, decided just to skip breakfast all other days and use in room wetbar.
Hilton is next door and visited for brunch one day, at $13 buffet, kids free, better value, better quality. Also Golds/Diamonds get free buffet, 2 per room.

Also no concierge food and beverage discount. Due to this lack of generosity, decided to completely avoid bar and restaurant, ordered delivery or ate out.

This hotel has a $8 parking fee rip off. Lot was empty.

Very underwhelming restaurant, bar and pool (heater broken during stay). Hot tub (ranged from scalding to cold during our stay). But great beach.

But, Kids & Wife loved it. Will return. But this hotel summarizes that Radisson is a 4 star chain at best, vs Hilton more high end.

Very quiet, low occupancy and I saw staff bored out of their minds.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Yes, for room and staff; No for Food and Beverage. But will book with orbitz or good to use annual credit card certificate.

Minimally Acceptable

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, received "upgrade", High Floor North Tower, Fireworks view. But the room is standard.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Welcome bag, note, breakfast vouchers, Waived $15 daily Resort Fee.

How are the rooms?
Basic, but clean and comfortable. Tile Floor.
Outdoor pool and hot tub.

What was good and what was bad?
Inefficient communication between front desk and housekeeping. Breakfast is poor. Servers are not friendly. Overpriced at $12pp plus tip/tax.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
15K, or ~$100 rate, $15 resort fee, No breakfast. I have plenty of points so burnt 15K/night.

For quick in and out it is acceptable; Skip Breakfast; Rooms are acceptable. Front desk is inefficient. YMMV if they waive resort fee.

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Park Plaza Riverbank, London

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?
So-so.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked regular. Got regular in new part of hotel. Beds were super uncomfy and after the first night got upgraded to a superior in old part of hotel.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Well, kind of
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Late check out was possible.
In-Room Welcome Gift - Yes, a bottle of water and some fruit.

How are the rooms?
New regular room was super-modern with control panel and everything. It was also small as is to be expected in London. Some material choices, e.g. the floor in the bathroom seemed quite odd. The only deal-breaker was that the were really hard and I find that unforgivable in a hotel.

Older superior room was spacier, slightly run down but ok. Separating the shower and bath tub was an excellent move.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Price. Relatively modern building.
Bad: Location is surprisingly off-center even though it looks adequate on the map.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
The 4-for-2 rate came down to €75 per night, which is very good value for money even in off-season London. In the future I'll probably chance it and get a more random hotel closer to good connections.

Question Park Inn by Radisson, Clark, Philippines

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay?
Park Inn by Radison, Clark, Philippines

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard room. Got a standard room.

Did you receive elite benefits?
- Room upgrade: No
- Early Check In: Not required
- Late Check Out: Not required
- In-Room Welcome Gift: Nothing

How are the rooms?

Small with very thin walls and small washroom.

What was good, what was bad?
Good: location. Near SM Mall away from the gogo bars. This hotel is more suited to business stays.

Bad: Thin walls means you can hear the TV next door and other "personal" business. Small rooms with half sized desk so it is very difficult to get work done.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

Kind of pricey for what you get but it is the only "Brand Name hotel" in Pampanga area. Holiday Inn Clark is now a Quest.

Tip
Hertz car rental from front desk is a heft 6,000Php ($121 USD) for a small Honda. I advise to cross the road to SM Mall and get a vehicle from Diamond Cars for only 999Php ($21 USD) and save $100 per day for essentially the same economy car.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No!

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard room. Got a standard room.

Did you receive elite benefits?
- Room upgrade: No
- Early Check In: Not required
- Late Check Out: Not required
- In-Room Welcome Gift: Nothing

How are the rooms?
Smallish size with small bathroom. But clean and comfortable.

What was good, what was bad?
Good: location, 10 minutes walk to the BTS station. Breakfast at 27 Bites was good.

Bad: Views were atrocious as we were placed on 15th floor (of 27 floors structure) facing a skeletal remains of 1997 Asian financial crisis.
The nickle and dime-ing at the FD.
Lounge staff and service.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
38K points per room per night and very cheap cash rates also. Would return if given suites upgrade, breakfast, and lounge access. But without, plenty of Bangkok properties that offer better amenities, cheaper rates, and more convenient locations.

Room with a view!!!
