Radisson Blu Saga, Reykjavik

Radisson Blu Saga, Reykjavik

- What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

- Where did you stay?
Radisson Blu Saga, Reykjavik, Iceland

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard for two nights in December 2014. Received Junior Suite with panoramic view of the city.

- Did you receive elite benefits?
Got the room upgrade, which also came with free breakfast. (YMMV on the breakfast with room upgrades, which is not mandated to be included in room upgrades in official policy IIRC.) Initially denied early check in as apparently our room was already assigned and they did not want to change rooms around, but then the guest checked out during this conversation so they had housekeeping clean the room immediately so we could check in. Also got an in-room gift of chocolate-covered strawberries.

- How are the rooms?
Junior suite was much better than expected based on the reviews I've seen of this hotel. Hardwood floors were very clean, bathroom was relatively small, but also clean. We enjoyed the separate sitting area and sleeping area.

- What was good and what was bad?
Service was quite good overall. The check-in unwilling to change rooms was a bit off-putting, though the staff did go out of their way to get the assigned room ready for us ASAP. Breakfast buffet had an excellent spread available. The bad: the public areas are pretty dingy, and I could see that extending to the regular rooms as well. We got lucky and got a junior suite, but if we had gotten a regular room I'm sure our opinion would be more on par with other reviews of this hotel. The tour booking office in the lobby was also very helpful in helping us modify tours we had booked earlier and wanted to change.

This hotel is a bit out of the way from central Reykjavik, which you can get to with a 20-30 minute walk (in the snow/ice, probably 15 minutes during the summer). However, there is a supermarket and a couple restaurants within about 10 mins walking distance.

- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
2 for 1 award booking. Based on our upgrade and service, yes.

Radisson Blu 1919, Reykjavik

- What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

- Where did you stay?
Radisson Blu 1919, Reykjavik, Iceland

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked business class room, did not get any upgrade. (I looked online and they were indeed fully booked.)

- Did you receive elite benefits?
The room booked already came with breakfast. No in room gift. They did give us early check in.

- How are the rooms?
Nicely maintained, but small. Not too bad for a European hotel.

- What was good and what was bad?
Front desk staff was efficient. Location was excellent, in the middle of downtown Reykjavik and easy walking distance to all the sights and many restaurants. The breakfast was decent enough, but the Saga hotel had better breakfast.

- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
2 for 1 award booking. Next time may try to book just the regular room.

Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Lucerne, Switzerland

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Stayed twice at the the 442 rate. First time got a lake-view room upon request. Second time just got a standard one as I didn't ask, however, bathrobe/slippers/shave kits are given in the room.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes if you ask
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - A bottle of water and some chocolates

How are the rooms?
Very good. It looks very new and everything is big, the room itself, bathroom, wardrobe etc. I especially like the floor-to-ceiling windows.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Big rooms, friendly staff, fitness/sauna room.

Bad:
No free breakfast for gold and very expensive (30 CHF pp).

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
442 rate is great. I can book some other hotels nearby at the same price with breakfast included, but they won't have such a large room or fitness/sauna room.

38K, Ok value, but good when using last night free via CC.

What stands out about this property, it has the best Radisson Club Floor I have been to in US. This is my second stay, and it is pretty good at elite recognition. Decent breakfast and pm spread (for a US Radisson)

Radisson Tokyo Narita

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Tokyo Narita

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked two standard rooms, received two business class rooms (on two separate occassions)

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Yes
In-Room Welcome Gift - Yes, cookies on the first stay...olives and sparkling water on the second

How are the rooms?
Fine, but nothing special. Typical airport hotel.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Friendly staff, clean rooms and a free shuttle bus to/from the airport and into Narita
Bad:
I did not pay attention if the pool/gym was included in the room price, but it is not necessarily free. To use the pool, you need to rent a bathing cap and it was not evident in advance to our stay. Minor details.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
We had a relatively cheap prepaid rate, so the value was rather good as they have free shuttles to keep extra costs down.

Country Inn & Suites, Williamsburg Historic

- What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

- Where did you stay?
Country Inn & Suites, Williamsburg Historic

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Book King Exec, received same

- Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade: No
Early Check In/Late Check Out: Didn't need, didn't request
In-Room Welcome Gift: Yes (2 waters, cookies, pretzels, and a coupon book)

- How are the rooms?
Decent. Furniture a bit outdated but fine enough for short stay. Shower walls have weird design. Toilet was annoying with a non-stop flush. Reported but never saw maintenance for the entire stay.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good: very friendly desk personnel, clean rooms, free breakfast, cozy lobby with fireplace was a PLUS on a cold night
Bad: Shower walls are very off-putting. Design makes you think they're dirty with handprints.

- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Definitely, for short stays. Managed to get a really cheap rate on the 48-hour sale, so wouldn't hesitate to go back when in the area.

Radisson JFK, New York

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson JFK, New York

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, received upgraded suite

Did you receive elite benefits?

Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Yes
In-Room Welcome Gift - No

How are the rooms?

The upgraded room/suite was quite spacious with a folding couch and recliner and had a fairly decent view of the airport/highway. There was a mini refrigerator along with a microwave in the room.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Was given EARLY check in ..around 7am.
Upgraded to a suite (after an issue with the room they initially assigned)
Close to the airport

Bad:
Area...nothing around except for the airport
Shuttle service- drivers are really nice, but one has to wait sometimes for the shuttle to get there. I think it leaves every thirty minutes, but I did see other hotel shuttles swing by at federal circle more often than Radisson.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

Stayed on points with last night free...good value. Will return.

Park Inn Muscat, Oman

- What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

- Where did you stay?
Park Inn Muscat

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard room, received business class room with no benefits after inquiring at check-in.

- Did you receive elite benefits?
On check in, no upgrade was offered. I inquired since there was a lot of availability showing online, and was told that upgrades are for Concierge members only. I pointed out the benefits sheet sitting next to the check in agent, and she seemed very puzzled. Then she called over her manager, who also seemed puzzled, but then they put me in a business class room (with no breakfast included). They did provide late check out, and sent up a fruit basket and a couple bottles of water.

- How are the rooms?
Bathroom was somewhat small, with shower only. Business class room was decently sized. Note that some rooms have windows that look INTO the atrium of the hotel, not outside. I'd try to avoid those rooms if possible.

- What was good and what was bad?
Muscat is a very long and spread-out city, so specific location doesn't really matter THAT much. For instance, this hotel is pretty close to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, but far away from the old city and palace. Convenience of the location is kind of unfortunate, despite being next to the freeway, with the closest eastbound freeway exit requiring you to backtrack, while to get to the hotel going westbound (as if coming back from the old city), you have to pull an elaborate series of u-turns and backtracks to get back to the same exit on the eastbound portion of the freeway. However, pulling u-turns and backtracking for long stretches of road isn't just specific to this hotel, it seems to be a pretty common thing in Muscat. I think it's been mentioned before, but the rooftop pool turns into a bar at night, and can get noisy if you are on the higher floors.

- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
2 for 1 weekend rate. Great value for Muscat, which can otherwise have pricey hotels.

Radisson Blu Vanderbilt, London

- What is your Club Carlson status?
Concierge

- Where did you stay?
Radisson Blu Vanderbilt, London, UK

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard for 3 nights. No upgrade and was told by hotel staff I was only a Red member so I wasn't entitled to an upgrade when I asked (Concierge for 3 years now)

- Did you receive elite benefits?
No upgrade, no in-room gift.

- How are the rooms?
Small and run down.

- What was good and what was bad?
Second time at this hotel and most definitely my last. First the place is like a maze and takes quite some time to find your room. When I did finally find room 209 (located BETWEEN the 1st and 2nd floor), I found it to be already occupied. This is the second time this has happened to me at this hotel. Replacement room had no windows and was quickly rejected, third room looked out directly onto the air condition intake so it was a rather noisy week.

On check in I was told that I had to pay in advance for my room even though this was covered by my company and booked through a recognised agent. I sent the confirmation email and was told this would be rectified. On check out I was told that I had to pay for the room and again had to go through the process of sending confirmations yet again.

Plus sides are the restaurant is actually quite nice following recent upgrade and the hotel is situation next to Circle line giving it easy access to the city.

- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
If I were paying for this then absolutely not and I will most definitely not be returning.

Country Inn & Suites, Salt Lake City South Towne, UT

What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country) Also put in the post title.
Country Inn & Suites, Salt Lake City South Towne, UT
(Actual location: South Jordan, Utah, USA)

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes!

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked "Guest Room - 2 Queen Beds"
Offered "Whirlpool Suite - 1 King Bed" at check-in

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade: Yes, without asking
Early Check In/Late Check Out: N/A (left 15 min late without issue)
In-Room Welcome Gift: Offered two bottles of water and chocolate at check-in
Everyone gets free breakfast

How are the rooms?
Good - Just slightly showing their age but kept clean and functional

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
- Friendly and competent check-in experience
- Was able to work from the room successfully - good wifi
- Plenty of parking
- Ventilation system had "Fan Always On" mode and the bed was decent, so I slept well
- There are many good upgrade possibilities here, including some with fireplaces

Bad:
- Immediately next to active railroad tracks - no whistles but frequent low rumble
- Hotel is perpendicular to the tracks so there probably are no significantly better rooms for noise
- Fan helped drown it out but it was still noticeable

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Yes - good location and work environment. Will probably be back next month, in fact.

Update from second visit: This time, the hotel was completely sold out for a conference. For some reason, our corporate travel site requires booking 2 Queens and there were no King rooms left. However, the family ahead of me had the opposite problem, so everything worked out fine. The standard King room was a bit more worn down than the upgraded room I had last stay. Also, this time I stayed on the front side of the hotel and the railroad noise was a little less. Welcome gifts were several different types of (decent quality) chocolate, as well as mints and water. Front desk says they are planning a complete renovation soon to freshen up the property.
