Further Lounge Access Restrictions

I've just been informed that lounge access for partners of Travelclub Silver members has been withdrawn, effective immediately. This is a bit of a pain, and not a brilliant sign for the future. So much for offering a visit to my mother.

The frequent policy changes seem to confuse even the staff at the lounges. Last Saturday upon checking in at Changi, I was handed two lounge invitations for my friend and me without even asking...

Anyway, it's about time I make it to Gold. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

And has there been an announcement about this ? Anywhere ? No, of course not. The website still says "Lounge access for partners ? Yes, 1 accompanying spouse or life partner".
Slowly starting to aggravate me...

"As you know we eased the current Lounge Access rule for Travelclub partners in July 2002 allowing you to invite your life-partner or spouse. Our intention was to offer you something better than our main competitors. However, we did not foresee such a sharp increase in the number of lounge users as a result of this more open policy, which unfortunately has also been abused by some travellers. This in turn has stretched our lounge resources beyond a manageable point, to the disadvantage of members in general. Consequently, we have reluctantly decided to restrict lounge access once again to members only. We are, however, working on an alternative lounge access policy for partners linked to your travel activity. Details will be communicated to you at a later stage."

This was in the December Newsletter I received via e-mail. I guess that qualifies as an announcement. I would be interested to know what kind of abuse they are talking about.

Travelclub newsletter ? Because I did not get any newsletters in December (except for the one directly from SWISS announcing their specials).

Such information are not only relevant to the members entitled to lounge access benefits, but also to frequent flyers thinking about accruing enough miles for becoming Silver. Things like that might even make the difference for someone. I think a more general announcement (especially on the webpage "The program after 2002") would have been the right thing to do.

I had that very same newsletter emailed to me yesterday. But I seem to remember that I saw the same statement before somewhere.

Same email for me.

Maybe we have to wait and see.
As for TC Gold member no problems yet at least.

kooks.
