Stop in Brussels - Any ideas!
G'day,
I'll be dropping by Brussels for 1 day and I am hoping to get some suggestions on what I should see in one day. I arrive at 9:00 am and depart at 9 PM What is the best way to get to the city? What is the Star Alliance Business lounge like? What should I see (I am the quiet, non museum but I like to walk sort of bloke) Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you in advance, Dave. |
The city is only a short, in expensive, train ride from the airpoert.
Get off at Gare Centrale not Gare du Nord and you a close to the Grand Place etc. Brussels has some nice things to see and good parks to Walk in. Stephen |
You must see the "Grande Place", a beautiful market square in the heart of the old town. "Mannekin Piss" statue is a famous and funny fountain. If you like to relax a bit and the weather is nice, head for "Parque du Cinquantenaire", the city park. Of course there's also the Atomium, a Brussels landmark, but it's a in the outskirts and, IMHO, not so nice.

Art Nouveau sites throughout Brussels, especially Horta's house. One of the originators of the art form.

Belgian food is super. Restaurant Vincent is one of "hidden secrets". Address 8-10, Rues des Dominicains, phone (02)5112607. Their speciality is seafood, espacially moules.
I had very good experience. [This message has been edited by fokker50 (edited 04-07-2001).] |
Maybe you can give the Airport Authority a hand by spending your time in Brussels renovating and rebuilding Western Europe's ugliest airport. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
|
Not at all.
It's a perfectly fine airport and, im any ways, better than LHR. It goes without saying that BRU is much better than any North American airport I have been to. Stephen |
Doh! How could I forget LHR!
|
I recommend the big green cathedral (I have forgotten the name), and the Mannekin Pis.
Atomium is a big waste of time in my opinion, it's nice to look at, but there's nothing really of interest inside. |
Excellent info fellow flyer talkers. I will most certainly go for walkies http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Whats the deal with getting to the city on public transit? I'll be in Brussels on Tuesday. Dave. |
There's an airport express which runs every 20 mins from Zaventem/Brussels airport to Brussels north, central and south stations. It takes 20-25 mins.
From Brussels central and south stations you can connect to the city metro. [This message has been edited by royalwing (edited 04-14-2001).] |
