Qatar Upgrade Availability
Hi all, sorry if this has been discussed but I am new to this particular program. Basically I am trying to book a J between CDG to SIN for Oct 2026, only Flexi is available as of now for the desired flight(s), checking deeper it reveals that actually there's award availability for CDG->DOH but only flexi on DOH->SIN, which brings me to a series of questions:
1. Does Qatar progressively release award or its a done deal, ie no more award between DOH->SIN from now to Oct 2026? 2. What if I secure first leg using Avios, book cash for DOH->SIN on Y, upgrade using Avios? This is the part where I am blurry, does upgrade with Avios only works with "saver" seat, ie even if there's Flexi between DOH->SIN, theres no chance I can perform such upgrade? 3. A slight variations of #2, book entire journey using cash on Y, at this point can I upgrade to mixed class? Thanks. |

Would just book the CDG to Doha flight in j and hold off on Singapore. Alternatively I would just book doh to Singapore and cancel if an award comes up or upgrade the Y ticket, which would be a better value. |

You need award availability to upgrade. There is no magic answer for you unfortunately. October isn't usually a peak travel month but Singapore is a high demand J route. No one knows if availability will turn up and your only option is to check periodically.

Because I think it costs around 1K SGD + 43000 Avios, assuming it’s the Singapore leg availability exists. Thanks and sorry in advance if I made any wrong remarks |

Thanks for the kind response. Can I ask when you say “award availability” are you taking into account the Flexi ”seat” (2x Avios)? Probably not right? Because what confuses me is that Qatar said upgrade is only possible with reward availability, but I’m unsure if it’s inclusive of Flexi (2x Avios ) ticket

So very busy week before and few days after that event. How are the prices in Y and C at the moment? |

For upgrades you need normal award availability, not flexi. For upgrades you receive avios for the original purchased class which reduces the cost of the upgrade. Also most destinations you don't need to pay additional taxes and fees, which QR charges for award bookings.

Ah thanks. Secured the first leg, for the second leg, yeah I'll either bite the bullet and pay 100,000 Avios (and wait for award availability and rebook) or buy a Y and hope for award.
Its not even due to F1, its the 24-26 Oct weekend. Q is ~S$900, Y ~1.3k, C ~$4.5k Thank you, must be busy then with conferences, that is indeed very steep. |

On 25./26.10.2026 you can fly CDG-BKK for only 75.000 miles.
Take it easy and book this and then conntinue BKK-SIN on an other booking. If you are flexible on 21./22./24./25.10.26 you can even fly CDG--SIN in biz for 75K. I see many available award flights for "normal" miles |
