Qatar Airways Infant booking fail - any help greatly received
Any help of advice would be greatly received.
Booked family to fly LGW-DOH-AKL-WLG return with Qatar Airways. LGW to AKL is two QR flights. AKL to WLG is Jestar operated. I thought (now stupidly) at time of booking could add unborn infant with first name Baby and then name correct. Or if worst comes to worst add new infant to adult 2 in booking and infant 1 is a no show... However QR customer services cannot correct at all. Keep stating that as another airline involved it prevents them. Cant even remove infant or add new infant. If it was all QR operated apparently no problem. its the JQ leg that causes the problem. Only solution they offer is cancel and rebook but that's a hefty cost (£1.5k Inc. ticket price increase & fees) as according to them cancelation is adult ticket not just infant. Just doesn't make sense. Any ideas? |

Jetstar is cheap. Will they allow you to just roll with it for the Qatar flights and maybe you can book a separate seat for the baby on the same JQ flight? I also don’t imagine there are ID checks in JQ NZ flights (but could be wrong)

Welcome to Flyertalk magnosaurus and the Information Desk.
As this is QR specific I'll move this to our QR forum. ~beckoa, co-moderator Information Desk |
Did you book the ticket online or with a QR agent? Is it an lap infant (w/o seat) ticket?
Check this also: https://www.qatarairways.com/tradepo...orrection.html You could take your chances and just play dumb. If a problem at the airport they should be able to issue an infant ticket at the appropriate fare. I've traveled with names interchanged (me) - and for the kids the wrong first name (including once "infant" and once "master") without issue. But not on QR. Maybe get a notarized letter or official looking statement that explains the change - e.g. that your kid was AKA/named "baby" before birth. |
I vote for the HUCA method the other guy mentioned; seems like you need to get someone wiser than the average CSR or someone who's willing to put in the work to get the info

Hmm, my experiences of this situation have not been pleasant, were you able to fix it magnosaurus ?

Or you can be proactive, contact your passport office. Just possibly they may have a solution for you. This must be an issue that comes up often.
