Plane change, now see "comfort seats" for economy
After reading a bit, it seems this 777-300 is a lease from Cathay or BA. When looking at the seatmap, I see there are empty "comfort seats" where they are wanting to charge for an upgrade to these seats. If I am a silver status member, will I be able to get these upon checkin if I ask, or does Qatar treat these as something other than economy seats and won't honor my request? Has anyone experienced this before?

Yes, these were premium economy seats. The plane had a stand up bar between business and preminum economy, so I am not sure if that is Virgin or another airline.
To conclude the story, upon checkin I mentioned I had noticed a plane change and he said yes. I then asked if we could be moved to row 15 or 16. I heard him speak to his colleage on the radio saying that I knew quite a bit about this flight and the seats. The answer came back that those seats were taken, but he would put us in an extra legroom seat. After this I didn't bother to look at the boarding passes given until some time later and it turns out we did get the row 16 premium economy seats. Well done Qatar!
