Ouch. I have checked bags with QR in J about 40 times and it never took more than 10 mins (regardless of airport), though admittedly at LHR the OWE status accelerated that (with an F counter being available).

Most memorable was a journey to BKK without any queuing (not at check-in, not at boarding, and not at immigration), with the bag delivered at the belt right next to the immigration counter and just reaching me as I approached.

I stand corrected. Glad I didn't have to face that situation.

I'm not quite at 40, though probably getting close, and my experience has been the same INCLUDING ten or so flights out of Houston. It was inexcusably chaotic this time. I kept trying to downplay it to the first timer behind me in line, but as one hour dragged into two that became harder to do. Hopefully the memory of the experience aboard makes her forget about the abysmal check in experience.
