Piper-Heidsieck Rare Brut Millesime 2006 - 93/100 (EUR 168)
Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires 2007 - 94/100 (EUR 165)
Laurent-Perrier Alexandra Rose 2006 - 94/100 (EUR 317)
Krug Grand Cuvee Brut NV - 94/100 (EUR 312)
Krug Vintage Brut 2004 - 95/100 (EUR 472)

So there's clearly a price differential between the Krugs and Heidsiecks but the pro critics mark them all fairly closely. Your palate may vary of course, particularly at 38,000 feet

* La Grand Dame 2006, formerly of the parish of Al Safwa, scores 94/100 (EUR 145)
Good post, but I’d point out the critics above are not tasting at 38K feet where things taste completely different as you note!

I quite like the Blanc des Millénaires (reminds me of flights in WY F) although I’d still rather have Krug (or La Grande Dame, Sir Winston Churchill, any one of a number of other prestige cuvées that are more my taste). It’s the Rare I’m not a particular fan of.

Just as a point of comparison, EVA no longer serves La Grande Dame in J too.

Has been replaced with LPGS for JFK/CDG flights and Duval Leroy Clos des Bouveries 2006 for the rest.

The CH Blanc des Millénaires is an excellent drop. I know it's a bit disappointing to those obsessed with Krug, but I'd be quite happy with this - particularly as I generally only have 1-2 glasses and then move on to wine. QR's current red wine F selection is exquisite!

Servings?

Is there any dishes which they will limit you to one serving (ie. Caviar, lobster)?
Has anyone flown with their partner and been able to convince them to leave the two of you a bottle of Krug?

this isn't a buffet. There are of course limits to how much they can serve to each passenger, since there's a finite amount of food catered. The crew will happily serve you extras once others have been offered their fair share.

Keep in mind that you might not be the only ones flying F. If there are other passengers around, I won't expect the crew to say yes.

I had in the past been offered a second serving of caviar when I could find nothing else that I'd like to eat. Then again there were only 4 passengers in F cabin that day, and 3 of them (as far as I could tell) were asleep for most of the journey.

The champagne might not be Krug! The Piper-Heidsieck 'Rare' Brut Millesime 2006 has appeared on all of my recent flights. I find 'Rare' quite an agreeable wine and am certainly not put out by the absence of Krug. All that said, why would you want them to leave the bottle with you? Much better to have it in the chiller until it's time to refill your glass.

Indeed! And also to avoid bottles flying around during unexpected turbulence etc.

They will refill your glasses at the ding of a bell, subject to not running out (it's a communal supply after all) or the passenger becoming overly tired and emotional. Plus it's a First Class cabin on an Arabic airline. A little situational and cultural sensitivity might be appreciated by the other passengers and crew.

QR833 BKK-DOH in late May

Overall a good flight, but no longer as good as it was. No Krug, Business Class amenity kit and cheapish PJs. I'd happily fly this route again if there wasn't a long layover for my connection to Europe.

greeting from the kitchen: some thai minced chicken wrapped in egg

caviar with rose champagne

delicious duck salad with fish sauce

beef short rib with white curry sauce and coconut shoots cut like thin broad noodles

dessert tart

DXB-DOH late evening flight June

Just to top and tail the above, this is the return menu on the same aircraft. Different snacks!

(bus gates at DXB both ways {and on arrival at DOH} for the full F experience )

Update, includes chicken wrap:

The raspberry eclair was delicious and very fresh, compliments to the pastry chef!
