Question on Transiting DOH

Good day,

we will be transiting DOH in Business class in a couple of weeks. We have an 8 hour layover between flights.

We would like to head to town for a few hours.

Question: What is the process for getting into the lounge to store carry on bags before leaving the airport?

Would we go via the ‘Transit’ route when deplaning, then head to the lounge?

Once bags are stored in the loung, how do we get from there back to Immigration/Customs to get out of the airport?

Thanks!

A thread I started a few years back has all the answers you need... Somewhere around post 25 or 27.... But the whole thread is worth reviewing for other info

I think the only significant things of note that have changed since that thread was started is the advent of the North node lounges, and the Qatar metro as an alternative route to the city
QR free transit visa - DIY Doha night tour?

If you do find something has changed, please report back!

Plunet,

THANK YOU! I perused the linked thread and it was very helpful and has put me as ease.

In short,
1. ‘Transit’ (go back through security like you are connecting right away/not leaving.

2. Go to lounge and store things in a locker. Just tell them you are going to roam the airport, don’t mention you are leaving the premises.

3. Take the ELEVATOR (not escalator) down to level 2.

4. Tell them you would like to leave the airport and they will escort you through to where you can proceed via immigration and customs.

5. Since we are flying Business, we can get our visa on arrival processed in the Arrivals Lounge on the far left of the immigration hall.

That all sound about right from my interpretation?

Sincerely,

Warning on 1 - a proportion of flights each day avoid the need to go through transit security and get tipped out onto the main concourse. In which case just follow signs for AM. In which case

Pro tip on 1 - it depends which side of the airport you arrive into whether the security area you arrive into has AM or AS entrance lobby below you, but as you exit the security scan area there is a elevator next to the escalator exit, so check if the elevator has AM on the floor guide and if so use that to avoid needing go down to the concourse and up the escalators, just saves s couple of mins.
Otherwise all good. Enjoy.

As always, much appreciated. I'm a little bit of a newb transiting Doha (only done it once and we didn't attempt this 'trick').

AM = Al Mourjan (Lounge)?
AS = ?

Thank you again!

AS is al Safwa, the first class lounge.

If we do not need to store bags, can we go to the AS/AM lounge directly upon arrival, or is there a separate arrivals lounge?

Either - depends what you want to do. Going to the standard AM/AS lounge will require that you go back on yourself and go back through security to be able to exit. Whereas if your intention is to exit then the Arrivals lounge is on your way and doesn't require any shenanigans.

I´ve booked the Onyx Airport Hotel for a layover. This should be in transit area.
If I want to visit the AM for food, i have to go through security to get back to the hotel? Or is the AM inside the security/transit area?

Everything within the secured transit area. Do not pass security, do not collect $200...

The arrivals lounge is after you clear immigration and exited through customs. There is no alcohol, and limited food options.

I've done the 'reverse' security walk with no issues at all to the First/Business Immigration Hall. From the lounge to the taxi rank it took less than 12 minutes.
