Maybe it depends on the cabin tok, but that ticket was F then J.
ah yes, i had forgotten! so yes, one reason to book BA is because of that!

Has anyone had issues trying to book on Qatar. My BA account is linked and in my profile on Qatar webpage, all Avios show. When go to book reward flight it says insufficient avios, balance 0. Tried different browers, always same issues

is there a way to search and see availability on other dates around the dates I have selected?

Do I need to search by sectors? I.e one search to Doha and then another search for the next leg?

I must confess I am used to the simplicity of BA if that is such a thing :-)
I found that I had to look by sector, otherwise it tries to force a stopover in London. But while I was finding really reliable availability last week for 355 days out now Iím not seeing anything at all for 355 days out. Qatar now has availability further out from BA but at significantly higher rates

itís higher at the moment because of Easter next year give it a week and the cheaper fares will be available, I just booked early March 2024 return for 180k business to Sydney
plus booking QR through BA is exactly same cost but flying BA is nearly double QR

Ah you're right, not a higher awards cost! Just different fare buckets, probably (not saver(?)) availability - not sure about the right terminology). For example, BA and QR have the same points rate of 70K SFO-DOH for 3/23 but only QR's website has availability right now for 3/30 at 140k SFO-DOH. Will keep an eye out post-holiday rush like Jason Sanderson mentioned.

That is interesting. How much is the cash portion, like taxes and surcharges? Are they the same or different?

It seems there is no more a "universal" rule but rather route by route cases that we have to check on both.

Sharing a data point because I have it to hand. Note that Qatar flights were booked on Qatarís website, and BA flights on BAís. Accounts were linked and Avios automatically transferred from BA to Qatar when making the Qatar bookings (this was about five weeks ago). In fact, I think had to make a fresh Privilege Club account before linking as I wasnít previously a member.

23/06 RUH - EDI

Qatar Business

45,000 + £167.24

01/07 EDI - RUH

Qatar Economy

22,500 + £196.11

Qatar total: 67,500 + £363.35

06/07 RUH - GLA

BA Business

60,000 + £360.60

22/07 GLA - RUH

BA Economy

30,000 + £50.00

BA total: 90,000 + £410.60

Grand Total

157,500 + £773.95

Gotta say, that last BA leg in Y back to RUH is phenomenal value!

One week later, BA is currently pricing that at 25,000 avios plus £50. Even better value! Mind you, you do have to fly on BA for that

Is there any benefit in booking with QR vs. BA for an award J ticket if I may need to change or cancel the ticket? Seems like both have similar policies, and I should get my avios refunded.

I had to actually transfer 50 Avios to my QR account from BA in order to see award availability on QR's website. The transfer was instantaneous. After that, I've had no issues finding award seats.
