Visited today ahead of BA15 to SYD. Can confirm the lounge is still 6pm-2am, opening just after the 6pm to DOH departs. I asked the staff and they said it’s because they are hired for an 8 hour shift and there’s no staff available for the lounge to open earlier.
Food was excellent, certainly as good if not better than what you’d find in a normal restaurant. Had burrata and lamb.
No access for status pax in Y, but they seem to accept any boarding pass that has a seat in J (except QR P fares). My travel companion was on a U class avios upgraded ticket and no question asked. They don’t seem to be able to scan OW boarding passes - they just take a photocopy of it.

thanks for the update.
Iam a little gutted that the lounge won’t be open for our 1800hrs departure, it’s a shame.
what’s the best next alternative to use the Qantas lounge?

Yes I sat in the QF J lounge for a bit before going to QR. If you are OWE you can go to QF first but I didn’t bother as I knew I was going to eat at QR. QF J lounge is no longer overcrowded since their F lounge opened. It has a number of fresh salads that are quite good (similar to the food in the now closed QF HKG which I miss), a station with (fairly good) pork belly buns and (not so good) laksa. Showers and attended bar with cocktails etc. By no means bad - it’s better than anything you’d find in most western countries but it’s definitely lounge quality not hotel/restaurant quality

So where's the default lounge that QR sends J passengers on their 6 pm flight to? Marhaba, with its far inferior food?

QF lounges (both J and F) open at 2pm daily. QR won't mention it, but you can go if you know about it. BA lounge is also open, but only from when BA check-in opens, usually at around 4:30 pm. The MH lounge has been permanently closed.
QF staff is not familiar with the concept of P (Lite) fares as QF does not have such a thing. I've heard various people getting into QF lounges with QR P fares.

I find it bizarre that QR can’t hire more staff for the early departure, rather than paying for people to enter another lounge.
is the QR947 1800 flight changing back to its original 2130 departure soon then?

There's still an industry-wide labour shortage. It's relatively less pronounced in SIN but the challenge is still there. If hiring staff were that easy, we wouldn't be seeing the chaos that engulfed so many airports these past few months.

I was under the impression that any passenger in Y, even with Emerald status, was persona non grata.

It would seem QR now permits early checkin at Jewel up to 5 pm, just in time to stride over as the lounge opens at 6 pm.

In recognition of breast cancer awareness month, they’re serving a number of pink themed stuff.

Rose bandung drink.

Compressed watermelon with salmon crudo. Sounds bizarre because it’s served with pickled ginger and fried garlic. But flavour is super complex and by far my favourite item.

Beef tenderloin on a slice of pink bread. Unfortunately tastes bland as it lacks seasoning.

Tuna avocado. Could have been sliced better without the tough sinewy bit right in the middle.

Got access to the QR lounge a few days ago using my MH business class boarding pass. The lounge was closed in the afternoon and re-opened again at 5:30pm. My flight with MH (booked with BA avios) was at 9pm but got to clear immigration at 2pm with MH check in desks opened alrdy so I first went to QF F lounge for the first time and was impressed (it opened at 3pm). I was even more impressed with the QR lounge as a first time visitor, as the design is impressive. Below are some photos from the food and champagne
