QR Threatens Airbus to Stop Taking Their Aircrafts

Few articles circulating in media and AAB not disclosing what the issue is. Any speculations? It's not a380. Could be damaging if they don't settle.

Qatar Airways warned that “serious” issues with Airbus SE may result in a decision to halt deliveries.....
“We have an issue with Airbus we need to settle, and if we are not able to settle that serious issue we have with them, we will refuse to take any aircraft from them,” Al Baker said.

“I unfortunately cannot tell you what that issue is,” he told the TV.
Unresolved problems with QA will cause Airbus “a stress in the relationship with IAG, with LatAm, with other airlines in which we have a shareholding,” the Qatari warned.

QR have plenty of form for being very very picky and rejecting the handover of aircraft. Their initial deliveries of A350s were delayed by several weeks due to quality issues. QR management also have form for sabre rattling and threatening to do stuff to get everyone's attention, but frequently the sabre rattling does enough to address whatever the issue is and/or a compromise is found, and life moves on as usual.

I could be wrong, but this appears to be a bit of both added together for good measure.

I hear you both. It's just interesting to see kinda (empty) threats publicly in media without mentioning the issue. Airbus seems quiet too, QR is the largest operator of a350s with 34 a350-900 and 19 a350-1000s. It was also the launch customer of both these aircrafts.

Put alongside QR's aversion to Charleston-born Boeings I assume this means QR is going to be an early customer for the Chinese-Russian CR929

Some reports suggest it may be paint quality issues causing the spat.

QR still has on order 50 a321neos and 32 a350-1000s.

My guess is that QR is trying to avoid, or at least slow down, aircraft delivery that they don't need.

Maybe Airbus should step up to the plate and announce they no longer intend to sell aircraft to QR and invite them to become a Boeing only carrier.

Update: Doesn't appear to be a paint issue but reinforced industrial repercussions.

"The ball is in their court to fix the problem we have with them, and it is up to them to resolve this as soon as possible before things can get a bit out of hand," Al Baker added.

"I think now is a time for the Airbus board to get involved and look at what is going on," Al Baker said.

"This is not a paint issue," Al Baker said on Thursday.

Qatar Airways halts A350 deliveries after jet surface problem

Qatar Airways said on Tuesday the surface below the paint on some of its Airbus A350s was degrading unusually quickly and insisted it would not take more deliveries of the widebody jet until the problem was resolved, Trend reports with reference to Reuters.

The airline has grounded some jets "until the condition and root cause can be understood and corrected," the spokesperson said, without disclosing how many aircraft were affected.\

"Qatar Airways will require this condition and its underlying root cause to be fully understood and corrected before the delivery of any further Airbus A350 aircraft.''

Battle continues. After 21 a350s grounded, QR sues Airbus. Any reason why proceedings are held in UK court?

And now there's a number. QR seeks $618m from Airbus in damages.

Because thats where the acquisition/financing usually takes place. In purchase contracts the place of legal jurisdiction is often England/Wales.
