Change in QR Reward redemptions
Hi All,
Was just doing a casual weekend award inventory browsing and noticed that there has been a decrease in award mileage required to redeem rewards. I also noticed that there was a change in the baggage policy in Economy which went down to 25kg from 30kg. Anyone know whether this is linked to the QR unbundling or whether it is a separate thing? I haven't heard any news from QR or even on FT! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e24e9a7874.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...49dab37356.jpg |
Great ! We are back to year 2018 chart again!!
|
The Qcalculator is loaded with the NEW amount of QMiles needed. So pleased :-)

Y baggage went down to 25 kg's for revenue buckets as well.

One more advantage to fly Asian airlines or Etihad (at least for Eu-Asia)

I can see that also, mileage required for my usual trip roughly halved...
I guess better late than never... Also surprised that they don t communicate about it.. |
Not sure the Qcalculator has been updated with regards to upgrade...
Currently upgrade from Y to C is the same price than a reward flight in C in Qmiles. |
these numbers are more realistic ....

I'm surprised this welcome development of reduction in miles needed for an award ticket hasn't generated more interest. Everyone seems to be tied up with the unbundling of R fares.
I took the opportunity to book a J round-trip Europe-BKK next spring. If it doesn't come off, as a Plat I'll get a full refund at any time. It cost nearly 100k miles less and USD 200 less than it would have done last year. There seems to be plenty of availability, too. Good news indeed. |
THIS is a welcome change!
Vaccines can't come soon enough! Even though they won't "fix" the pandemic, it will tame Governments to open borders again, as their healthcare system won't be overwhelmed. |

Confirmed:
Qatar Airways Privilege Club Cuts the Number of Qmiles Required to Book Award Flights by up to 49% https://www.qatarairways.com/content...required-.html |
They should also update the amount used for an Upgrade. For example the flights ZRH-SYD in booking class O costs 117,500 qmiles to upgrade. A redemption ticket costs 90,000 qmiles for the same flights.

Definitely good news for those of us left holding a bag of QMiles. Since Privilege Club extended status, Credit and miles validity (at least) a full year...well, now we're talking.
Can't fully let them off the hook, but they sure have been ahead of the pack the last few months. |
