Checking in alcohol on transit
Hi, my friend will be travelling back to Kenya on Qatar airways, she will be departing from Singapore to Kenya, transiting at Doha with a 12 hours layover this weekend.
I got her 2 bottles of wine (750ml each) and she will have to check them in. Her luggages will be checked all the way to Kenya so I believe she is not going to retrieve her baggage at Doha and re-check in again for her Doha-Kenya flight. Can I clarify whether does she need to declare anything at Doha customs, and does she need to surrender her alcohol in her checked-in suitcase on arrival at Doha, collect a receipt, and retrieve the bottles of wine back from the customs when she leaves Doha for her next flight? Thank you! |
Assuming this is one ticket, no need to deal with Doha customs. Luggage will be transferred to their connecting flight.

Definitely, if just transit do not worry, there is nothing to declare, I did it on QR and many other airlines, even with Saudia with a 9 hours transit in Jeddah without issues. Just make sure bottles are properly wrapped and case is full enough avoiding them shaking inside.

Hi Moony123 and welcome to FlyerTalk
As other posters above have mentioned, her bag would be through checked so she does not need to worry about any customs formalities in Qatar. She would hand her baggage in Singapore and she would get it back in Kenya. |
