Ask at the airport check-in. Unless he's a status passenger (usually) it's the only way.

I'd have thought adding your FFP number to his reservation wouldn't be possible (& against t's & c's), unless he was a family member.

Indeed, if you try adding your number to a booking that is not yours, 1) you won't give the person any benefit and 2) you could get in trouble. UD is usually reserved for status members for a reason and I doubt that if you call QR they would do it. As pointed out, airport check in may or may not sit him there if there is space left.

Unless you friend is flying to/from LHR, the UD is very unlikely to be full with QR and Oneworld status members. So he should arrive very early for check-in and nicely ask for an UD seat before they are all gone.

It's QR4 but I did email Qatar and they asked me to request about 8 days before departure and they will try to accommodate us so fingers crossed
i normally fly alone what's the ethos for priority boarding if traveling with a non status?

This may be a silly question, but what is the benefit of an UD seat?

Good to know. Let us know how you go with getting your buddy in. I've got an A380 flight coming up and might try to get the hubby (no status) on the UD

I've been in this position several times. No problem if on the same pnr, can be done online. On separate pnr's as has happened with my partner several times (me gold, him burgundy), they would only be able to accommodate this at check in (at London Heathrow), I tried at the QR desk at Heathrow about 2 weeks before-got nowhere. So it is possible if there is space at check in. Good luck!

On separate pnrs, so guess will have to try at check in.
If you're economy on the UD - do you get access to the bar?

Thanks guys!

LOL.

Err, no, you won't get access to the bar as it's strictly for First & Business pax only. If you do try to enter you're likely to be removed very quickly, & none too politely, if the one time I've witnessed an attempt is anything to go by.
