This is getting seriosly OT...but I had amazingly tasty, cooked to order (medium) sirloin steak onboard JL First a couple of months ago. It can be done without flame.

I've had amazing steaks on LX F too. Absolutely amazing. Also recently had a great steak on NH F too iirc.

So basically it is because QR just cut $ and serve substandard food in the lounge?

It comes down to each individual's taste.

I quite like the food quality in the Al Sawfa lounge. The Middle Eastern and Asian dishes that they make are nice. So is the nice touch of offering Arabic Coffee along with dates.

Overall, it's nice, but I feel that the "premium feel" over the Al Mourjan lounge (which already is superb) certainly has some room for improvement.

When flying J is it worth paying to access this lounge if you don't really drink? Seems people are saying the food is not amazing?

If you value space, quiet & privacy the Al Safwa lounge can offer a refuge from a sometimes manic Al Mourjan.

Perhaps I'll play it by ear on the day-of then. Thanks.

Only if you have an overnight layover and this becomes just a cheaper hotel room.

Having a steak cooked through doesn't make it substandard, even if it's not trendy nowadays.

Overcooking a steak unless specifically asked to is substandard — and not asking a customer how they want their steak cooked certainly is a service failure too.

Was it really overcooked or merely well done? We all know how steak snobs decry anyone who asks for their meat cooked through.

If they can only prepare them one way as it appears, it would be polite to inform the customer but impractical to ask them how they would like it.

It was cooked well done. (I consider that overcooked. I think most people would.) Even if I liked well done steaks, which I don't, it's still a rather lackluster dish in other ways (like the quality of the meat and the overall dish with sauce, sides, etc).

Most restaurants would cook a steak medium rare by default, and a burger medium by default. Straying from those widely accepted default norms should include upfront disclosure.

its not just the cooking method but quality of ingredients..... tbh I feel the best lounge for QR is their LHR lounge.
