Using Expedia you wouldn't be as Qatar's money is safe. They will be paid by Expedia. Booking direct puts Qatar in the line for any fraud, and you may not have experienced it, possibly due to where you stay, where the booking is made from, your booking history etc. I would not expect Qatar to reveal their security requirements, and although you luckily have never come across this issue, there are countless stories here on FT and elswhere on the Internet where CC provenance has caused problems for travellers.
