I based this plan on looking at the oneworld lounge website where they indicate that the lounge has a shower, but I just happened to look at the Plaza Premium site and they don't mention anything about showers.

I assume the oneworld website is wrong and that there aren't any showers - can anyone help confirm? If there aren't any showers it messes up my plans somewhat.
I didn't see any showers when I was there, and I did look.

The lounge is pretty decent, but it isn't a hive of facilities.

There are no showers unfortunately, I did pretty much the exact same thing as you're doing. I would suggest you try and find a day rate or cheap overnight rate at a hotel or something, even if it is just the Tune hotel for a shower.

For the DOH shower issue, we landed early on QR851, maybe around 2245... more than enough time to clear immigration and use the arrival lounge showers. There was literally no one in there and the showers were completely unattended which meant a small-talk-free shower experience!

I thought the lounge was about the worst I'd ever been in !

The seating is comfortable, the chef makes you a complimentary dish (and my curry was really good), the Wi-Fi is fast, and the bathrooms are clean.

Far better than the old CDG lounge, for example.

Did you connect to QR9 (the 01:30 departure to LHR)? I’ve never used the DOH arrivals lounge (/immigration process) so don’t really have a sense of timings.

Yep, even though we arrived about half an hour early all the timings were very comfortable... went through immigration where there was no queue (just honestly explained I was going to use the landside arrivals lounge), obviously no queue for a shower in the arrivals lounge and then went straight back up to the priority immigration/security where again there was no queue. I was off the plane and back through to departures in about 45 minutes.

Great, thanks! I’ll give that a try.

For anyone looking to use a shower before departure - instead of renting a hotel room for the day I ended up going for a massage. I can recommend Angelfeet Body Massage & Foot Reflexology. It’s near the jetties and some hawker markets, so it’s convenient if you want to eat before heading to the airport. I paid 68 MYR for a 45 minute fully body massage and they offered use of a shower afterward. Basic facilities but the massage was decent and a fraction of what it would cost at home. It also makes for a relaxing start to the journey.

The massage place is also close to a few good cafés - Black Kettle does some amazing pastries, breads and food. China House is also just down the street and has an even bigger selection of desserts and a more rustic ambiance. Worth checking out if you’re travelling light.

There’a no left luggage facilities in the airport, but Queensbay Mall, the shopping center that’s about halfway between the airport and George Town, has some storage lockers that you can rent by the hour. I didn’t end up using them since I didn’t have much interest in going to a mall and it seemed like more hassle than it’s worrh. If I wasn’t able to easily carry all of my luggage I would just rent a ~$30 hotel room in George Town.

I just went online to check the seating situation for my flights on 12-13 Jan, noticed that despite the Qatar app not being updated the seating config of DOH PEN-DOH moved from 2-2-2 to 1-2-1. After a little investigation it seems that we have switched from an A332 to a 788. Happy days!

...snap for the week after...seems this is happening to most. It would be nice if they told us instead of automatically moving us from the side 2 seats to the middle 2 seats in the new plane! Thanks be to FT!

I got back last Friday morning into LHR on this ticket.

My outbound flights were empty. 5 pax on the EDI-DOH A350 flight, and another 5 on the DOH-PEN leg.

I stayed at Seven Terraces, and had a decent meal at a little Mexican place called Holy Guacamole on Love Lane. Seven Terraces is an excellent property.

For those travelling on (I went to SIN for a week) the Plaza lounge in the regional flight terminal is not the one you'll use for your return back to DOH. Also allow time for immigration on the PEN-DOH flight as I queued for about 40 minutes.

Both my return legs were pretty full. I think there were 4 spare seats on the PEN-DOH flight and about the same on my DOH-LHR on the A380.

We were on the same flights then! Although I didn't find the exit immigration queueing bad at all in Penang, there was no queue at about 1830. Did you go up to EDI too? The LHR terminal transfer buses were a nightmare that morning.

Holy Guacamole is always busy, and looks really fun.

I got into Penang from KL about 17:15 so I got my BP as soon as the desk opened and went through, so I guess I was caught up in a couple of other flights as well.

I'm guessing you weren't the young Saudi chap in front of me who was met by SS and Heathrow VIP and whisked off through a side door to a waiting car?!

No! Although there was a family in row 10 who were creating work for the cabin crew.. their daughter started wondering around on approach into LHR with the crew shouting at her to sit down whilst her family just sat there on their phones!
