Qatar Airways CEO Says Only Men Can Do His Job

Oops.

At a press conference in Sydney, where IATA held its annual meeting, he was asked what could be done about the woeful representation of women in Middle East aviation. That’s not the case at Qatar Airways, Al Baker told the reporter.

“Of course it has to be led by a man, because it is a very challenging position.” There were loud groans of disapproval from many reporters in the room.

He did backtrack a little afterwards, but still...

I wife could burn through as much cash as Al Baker at Qatar has done in half the time...

But Qatar has form, this report is rather disturbing

Little Akbar Al Baker (he's a very short man in real life) is widely known in the global industry as a narcissistic misogynist. There's always been whispers about how he's apparently treated women at certain aviation companies that are disgusting. Then there's the borderline criminal rumors of his treatment of his own female employees at QR. A sad, sad, little excuse for a man.

His disparaging 9/11 remarks and "grandma" remarks didn't get covered much in the US media, but these remarks are - It was on Morning Joe in America, and all the other leading morning shows in the US this morning. Looks like the global media is as well. Not great a great look for QR, much less the nation-state of Qatar as a whole, which is actually far more progressive than it's peers in many ways. As if the 666 Park bail-out didn't make them look bad enough...

No, just a tone-deaf answer to a pertinent question in today's Western social and political order.

The thing is if any of the US3 CEO had said this publicly, he would have had to offer his resignation. ME3 - this will be laughed off.

What skill does it take to run an airline with unlimited financial backing? It's like playing SimCity with a cheat code for cash. Even a woman could do it

it really doesn’t take much skill to lead QR. thousands of individuals could lead QR in a much better manner. He is pure trash, treats employee with absolute disrespect and preys on SE Asian women.

Clearly he is a nasty misogynistic person. I really don't understand the logic of any connection to his stature.

Are there not tall misogynists?
