Different lounge - there are two for OWS/OWE as they don't allow status entry to Al Mourjan (J)/Al Safwa (F) which are supposedly much better [I've only been in AM so can't speak to that].

If you’re travelling in business class, the QR Al Mourjan lounge is the place to be - vastly superior to the First Class lounge.
If you’re travelling in first class, the QR Al Safwa lounge is available.

Well that was essentially my thinking. I'll see nearer the time what the options look like. The only downside is setting a precedent at work that I am happy with non direct flights. As this won't always be the case. Risky strategy.

Nice to hear. Happened to me last year in the opposite direction at the gate, and yes I was also quite excited by the prospect. Still spent a considerable amount of time in the bar area though despite 3 A. Dont forget the free wi fi voucher; I almost paid for wifi before being handed one.Having recently been on the same routing in J last week ( which was oversold by 6 in J apparently so 3 up and 3 downgraded) I have decided that QR A380 J will be my go to seat if affordable.. unless of course Im on a GUF , then BA 's version of A380 F ex EU will do just fine -although that involves an internal QF flight down to Mel for me. If leaving Mel as BA Gold I find that the format of QF F lounge 3 course meal, QR Bar for a few hours, then about 8 hrs sleep before eating again works quite well!
Just noted bisonrav's comment and agree - spent a while in one just enjoying the space, the orchids and the general ambience... ha ha .One of the nicest spaces to be found airborne IMO!

But you’re obviously made of stern stuff, and can tolerate it all ..........

I have a HKG trip coming up soonish and I have been umming and ahhing about going via DOH and trying QR just for a bit of variety. Do they actively target BAEC status holders for this kind of thing (especially if first flight with QR)??? If so might be worth a punt just for the hell of it???

I've done QR in J on 8 sectors to date and as yet have never had an upgrade to 1st. Dont get me wrong, not having a moan or believe I have any divine right to be upgraded but if being BAEC may influence the decision then I'm on the DOH-MEL 24th Dec in J so who knows!!! That said, QR J at least for me more than meets the requirements ans considering I paid £2k for OSL-DOH-MEL AKL-DOH-OSL at what I guess is a peak travel time I aint complaining.

Speaking of the bar, it's Ramadan so apparently they can't have the booze on show (arab state etc) but it's still available. I shall see what malt they have, if I can face walking past the great unwashed in Business
