Different kinds of QR J
 

I'm not a regular QR flyer, but have now done six legs over the last two months. I'm struck by how different the service is on different flights, and how the service standards seem to be different depending on aircraft/route. Had my first experience on the 380 from London last month, a daytime flight so didn't attempt to sleep. But on the onwards leg from Doha to Oz there was a full duvet and cover for the bed. On a recent DOH-SIN I asked for one and was told that they weren't loaded onto that night flight, because it was shorter (timetabled for c. 8 hours).

Similarly I've seen various different forms of cutlery/salt and pepper/service wear (though I'm assuming that probably one is now being rolled out and another discontinued over time?), different kinds of amenity kit, availability (or not) of PJs, as well as (of course) the three different types of J seat currently on rotation.

None of it is a problem, just interesting... I would guess some service differences are to be expected on super-long-haul flights but found it a little curious...

The QR definition of night flights deserving PJs etc has at times been Kakfaesque.

There's a liberal sprinkling of quirky, autocratic rules governing customer service and customer behaviour. The latest dictat covers sartorial regulation: no shorts in lounges. And once in a lounge you risk getting your knuckles rapped for taking food to areas outside the designated food-consumption areas.

Many wonder where this bossy and dictatorial attitude comes from ...


But once you've understood there are rules, and you wear long trousers, things are OK. Good fares and (generally) excellent service on board largely make up for the irritations.
