Goodbye QR hello EK

After so much hassle booking with Qatar saver fares with promo booking codes and having to argue to get the correct mileage etc the general downgrade of aircraft type on the BKK route and the near impossible task to book award upgrade at non X2

I asked Emirates to status match me so they offered me silver from QRPC platinum which I think is standard practice
So easy access to LGW and almost entirely served by 380 and I thought I'm spending all the extra money on more expensive tickets just to get a few extra miles

Now just need to try and spend my remaining QR mileage

How exactly does one ask for a status match?

I don't blame you. There's not much left to keep a Y flyer at QR nowadays after the many cutbacks and service reductions (even BA has just announced plans for a better long haul Y service ).

Congrats on the status match - I'm sure you'll build up to Gold/Plat soon - and I hope you'll enjoy flying EK!

Every flight I seem to price has been cheaper on QR ( mainly in J) versus EK. And I prefer the QR product/service. Perhaps thats just my luck/experience. Just saying

I agree with you the product is nearly always superb but I would rather be stuck in Y on EK 380 than QR 777/787

Have you tried the new 10 abreast 777 layout? I would agree it's better than the 787, but only marginally.

Yes I have. The 10 abreast layout on the 777 had more legroom compared to the 787. Seat width on both aircrafts is almost the same but the 787 felt tighter. I took the window seat and it was like being squished to the fuselage.

That makes me want to move over to EK as I hate the equipment downgrade they have done to my usual HKG-DOH legs. Absolutely hate the old 777 J seats.

I love their service and their other planes though.

As far as I know Emirates' 777 are 10 abreast too..? 787 I agree is horrible on QR, with two IFE boxes per 3 seats..

But about the J seating.. Sorry, paying a premium like EK charges these days to have 2-3-2 is pathetic.

Yes, very true - but EK operates many more A380s than QR, which means a more comfortable journey if you can get all legs on the A380.

That makes a lot of sence, sadly the routes I fly are all still 777's
