I never succeeded buying this despite trying numerous times. I kept getting an IT error message. So:
- I called and was told it could only be done online.
- I tried on arriving at the airport. I was given a price of roughly $3500.
- I went thru security and went to the upgrade desk in the transit area. The upgrade was for a family member who was still on an incoming flight. I was told she had to be present and that the upgrade could only be done 3 hours in advance. The agent didn't know the price til the 3 hour mark.
- She arrived, we went to the transit desk once we were within the 3 hour mark, and paid $370 for the upgrade.

SLL-DOH Y-J for £207 and nothing for the DOH-MAN leg.
Happily, when I got to the gate at DOH, I'd been upgraded for free. First time ever for an op-up, and first time in business on Qatar. Loved it.

Ridiculous.
Tried to upgrade from R to F from DOH to BKK 1 day in advance - was offered 1034 euros, decided to wait till 3 hours before flight for “upgrade on departure special offer”. F cabin all 8 seats empty.
Got an “offer” 3 hours before flight - 1240 USD or something. F-cabin having 1 pax during flight.
Thats reallt stupid to my mind - selling real offers for 600 usd or something would probably make F at least half full.

I have asked for an upgrade for DOH-NRT, the cost was 620USD but the flight was full, so I couldn't get it. This was in Doha at the upgrade station. From NRT to DOH, I got an offer a few days before my departure when I checked my flight online. I waited until check-in but the price didn't change. Interestingly the price for NRT-DOH was 550USD, so I took the offer. The flight was only half full in both business and economy but for such a long flight I felt it is worth. Unfortunately, the miles credited as economy, I wish I got the R class...
I am under the impression that the station in DOH has a fixed price for many routes. A couple before me was quoted 620USD for DOH-ZRH flight and they didn't take it.

When I flew from JFK-DOH in January I was able to upgrade from economy to business QSuite at the airport check-in for $800. Thinking about buying a economy ticket for flight 704 tomorrow JFK-DOH on a 350-900, and trying my luck again as Expedia is showing 6 seats open in business. Anyone had a recent experience of this leg and if so what was your upgrade at check-in price?
To round out my experience I also upgraded DOH-BKK for $500 on a 380 on the next leg. Return legs were also upgraded in February . BKK-DOH 380 for $500 and DOH-JFK 350-900 for $850.

Is there any chance of receiving an upgrade offer from J to F (BKK-DOH) when the flight loads are very light in each cabin. F is currently empty and J is about 1/3 full 2 weeks before departure. I’d probably take the offer if it was sub 1k just to sample the F product on a nice evening flight.

Is there any chance of receiving an upgrade offer from J to F (BKK-DOH) when the flight loads are very light in each cabin. F is currently empty and J is about 1/3 full 2 weeks before departure. I’d probably take the offer if it was sub 1k just to sample the F product on a nice evening flight.
