Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seatA video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.
They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.
The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.
All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.
Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

I've been given mattress pads on long-haul Qsuite flights. (When I've been in J on flights that don't provide pads, such as AA (AA only has pads in J on HKG, SYD, and AKL), I use my blanket as a pad. If my seat has air jets, I also ask for an extra blanket, so I can open the jets to cool down my seat area and sleep under a blanket. If I do not have air jets, I do not sleep under a blanket anyway.)

Qatar do provide "mattress pads" on most red-eyes exceeding 8 hours. In fact I even had it on a short red-eye between SIN and DOH. Sometimes you'll be proactively offered them, other times you need to specifically request for them, but what's for sure is that they are there.

I this perhaps "resetting" the logical inbound/outbound pairings? We were on QR947 on Monday and it was clear that turning the 35K round in ~80minutes was an absurdly rushed process for the CC [and I presume any cleaning too]. Meanwhile, there was a 359 cooling its heels for 8 or 9 hours.

I doubt they will change the new pairings though as the reason 945/946 are paired is reported to be so QR can shuffle A350s through SIN for maintanence checks (hence the long time on the ground).

apparently all 815/816/817/818 are all QSuite config. My qr815/0325 was a QSuite when I booked, 2 weeks prior to flying out they changed it to a old J, then 5 days prior to flying out resumed to a QSuite config

Never been on a 777 2-2-2 config but I reckon it’s similar to 330 2-2-2? It was one of the better Js comparing to major airlines out there, try their 787 or 359 1-2-1 next, it’s another amazing cabin.

Qsuite A350 DOH-ARN April 3, 2019
Quad suite on A350 DOH-ARN APril 3, 2019
After having a last minute aircraft change 2 weeks ago on the DOH-SIN flight, we finally got the chance to try the Qsuite. Last Tuesday HKG-DOH on the B777 and yesterday DOH-ARN on the A350. Really impressive. The absence of overhead bins above the middle suites on the A350 definitely makes it spacious. The load was very light yesterday to ARN so I asked the FA if it was possible to see the quad suite as the third seat on our flight from HKG-DOH was occupied. We were really impressed. Definitely First in Business

It gives the cabin a very open look, yes, but the downside is no overhead bins, and no air nozzles for the middle seats. My spouse and I fly in the middle seats and we're always sweltering on Airbus. The 777 has air nozzles and is delightful.

The 777 2-2-2 are very spacious (same number of seats as Qsuites). Much better than the A330.

My previous best J experience was LHR-LAX on American's 77W which was very nice. For this routing KGL-DOH is a 787, which I'm guessing will feel similar to the AA plane -- with hopefully a better soft product.
DOH-LAX is typically a QSuite 77L, but on my particular flight is an old config 77W. I'm a bit surprised they can fly that, as my understanding is that route is at the very edge of the 77W's certified range, but it clearly can be done as they just used it for yesterday's flight as well.
I'll be happy if we get a last minute equipment swap, but not holding out hope. How good is the old business setup in your experience? I know the hard product will be a step down from the preceeding 787 flight, but I'd imagine the soft product is still excellent on the 16 hour haul?

I'm glad to hear it! I'm flying KGL-DOH-LAX-DEN in a few weeks on my way back from a business trip (only available J award on the entire routing was the exact day I needed to leave -- thanks QR!).

I genuinely wouldn’t be too concerned with the 77W old style business class seats since they are still very comfortable to sleep on. We did those seats on the ultra long haul DOH-AKL and we had no issues since you actually have more space than the 787 seats due to no cubby hole to put your foot in. Just choose a middle seat if travelling alone since nobody will be climbing over you.

Am with you on the hard core window seat since I am pretty much the same. There is a actually plenty of space to climb over someone if you are in a window seat. I am just over 5 foot 10 and I can do it easily. Easier than BA seats! If you can get row 1, it is even easier.

My BLR-DOH was downgraded from Qsuites to the old 777 2-2-2. I am seated in the middle currently. Do they have air nozzles in the middle or only on the side seats on the old configuration?
