Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Is it fairly safe to assume a early 2019 DOH-IAD flight will have Qsuites? I am looking at the seat maps and it it looks like it switches from Qsuites back to the old 777 map after OCT 2018

Also, how do seat assignments tfr if the seat map changes? do you keep the existing seat assignment?

The only thing that is fairly safe to assume is that there's going to be changes. I'd book with the expectation to get non-Qsuites and consider a change to QSuites a nice surprise.

In the last month, I've taken two longhauls on the 773 Qsuites and two longhauls on the A350. What I like most about the Qsuites is the privacy and feeling of personal space. However, I find the seats on the A350 are more comfortable for sitting and especially sleeping. I also feel like there's more legroom on the A350; my feet don't reach the end but they do in the Qsuite. In the end, I think it's a toss-up about which business seat I prefer. Clearly though, both of these are wonderful seats and better than what's on their other widebody aircraft. And the soft product (quality of food, level of service, luxury of amenities, etc.) is still the best I've experienced.

Was surprised to find Qsuite on QR1 from Doha to London on 11 March 2018 as it was A350-900 plane. I was on seat 7A (Single Seat) and it was spacious and comfortable. I think it is slightly better than the older A350 seats although their old A350 seats were excellent IMO. My only negative comment perhaps would be the table for qsuite is a bit too big. I think 75% of the current size is more than enough to place a laptop on it or for eating. As a result, there is not much space for larger built individuals to move around when eating. However to overcome this, just put your seat on sleeping position, in that way, you have plenty of space to sit on it and eat your food. Apart from that, everything else was amazing on the QSuite. Simply the best in the market at the moment.

Smile Qsuites Rollout

Flying ORD/DOH/AKL on July 3rd. Just received notice that Qsuites on QR726 a 773 on ORD/DOH sector which starts on April 1st will be running through at least our departure date. However, QR920 a 772 on DOH/AKL on July 5th still shows 2-2-2 configuration in Business. Seen some other threads a ways back about Qsuites rollout but there was no mention of 772. Given the 772 are used for the ultra long haul sectors seems like those would have been done first. Sent message to QR via Twitter but they came back with their usual we know nothing but stay tuned. Does anyone know when the DOH/AKL sector will see an equipment update?

According to TPG:

Not surprisingly, this route (LAS) came up again at ITB Berlin. Al Baker explained that the route has been delayed “due to the constraints of the airplane.” The airline wants to launch the new route with a Qsuite-installed aircraft, and the only aircraft that can serve the 8,100-mile route from Doha (DOH) to the famously hot destination of Las Vegas (LAS) with Qsuite installed is the Boeing 777-200LR.

The trouble is, Qatar plans to retrofit the 777-200LR “toward the end of the [retrofit] program” after at least Qatar’s 777-300ER aircraft are retrofit. However, Al Baker teased that the airline might “expedite” the retrofit of a couple of 777-200LR aircraft to be able to finally launch this route.
So this is not exactly the answer for your question but at least we know that the 772 are not happening to be reconfigured anytime soon. I’m also flying to AKL in November and don’t except to be in the new configuration. No one really knows

Sorryif its been posted upthread or elsewhere but Qatar is not letting me select midde seats ahead of time. The cabin is wide open but they claim on the phone that the middle seats can only be selected ahead of time if traveling in a pary of 4. We are a party of 3 with a 3 yr old. We need the 3yr old directly next to one of us. Will we have any problems at checkin getting these seats or is there any other way to secure ahead of time?

thanks

Just flew QR 1/2 on A7-ALY, the A359 fitted with Qsuites last week. Very nicely fitted cabin, loved the air vents - which the quads do not have. Perhaps anyone flying a Qsuite-359 may want to know that there is no more open-air 'lobby' at Door 2 and nor are there lavs in front of that space (all lavs around door 1). The first pair of backward-facing middles are noticeably tighter and quite near the lavatories, so I would stay clear of those.

I'm surprised QR is hanging onto the 777-200LRs, in light of SQ flying the A350-900ULR from EWR-SIN non-stop.

Damn, i had to pick between QR2 or QR16 (both A359) for the late departure LHR-DOH for September and guessed at the QR16 (they were only 20 minutes apart in departure). Anyone know if QR16 has Q suites as well or is planned to? Current seat map is the 'old' style.

It's not really safe to assume anything, although a few points in your favor:

(1) The QR website advertises specifically that QSuites are available on JFK, ORD, and IAD.
(2) Initially, the QSuites planes were loaded into the schedule for a couple months only, and then loaded for the next batch of flights. I'd imagine they haven't gotten to changing those planes loaded into the schedules yet, or are being cautious until they are confident at a certain time that they can absolutely fulfill it operationally.
(3) They're retro-fitting planes, so more QSuites are coming online, not fewer! That will make it easier to guarantee operationally that certain routes will have them.

I was watching the same for this summer (was reverting to the old layout in May) and eventually they swapped to the new qsuites. Given that experience, I'd say they take their time updating their timetables to qsuites...alternatively they see it as a trial and keep making the decision to extend. Anyhow, there's a datapoint for you!

Is this some sort of indemnification? Lost track of how many times I booked A350 ex FRA and got bait and switched to 777.

A taste of what is to come? FRA gets regular A359 QSuites as of May 1 (in one of the two rotations), which I find surprising given that FRA now has two 777 rotations.

I was able to select middle QSuites seats for 2 passengers online on QR701 day of booking.

Booked an AA aware ticket CMB-DOH-JFK with DOH-JFK being on QR701 for 2 pax. AA phone agent was not able to book the middle seats on QR701. Using QR record locator I was able to go online and had access to all of the middle seats except for 2D/G and 3E/F. Selected middle seats and got email confirmation from Qatar with confirmation of the seats. Flight is in 5-6 weeks.
