Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Its worth private messaging @QRSupport on Twitter with a polite message. I got E and F seats assigned within 15 minutes. No fuss.

Sometimes being on one route works while another doesn't. Sometimes blocked center seats open up within a few weeks of flight, sometimes way ahead, sometimes they go blocked again.

In my own case, as I've posted, I've booked QR8 LHR-DOH with Q Suites on multiple itineraries. Sometimes it's been trivially easy to assign EF seats with two of us in the PNR. Sometimes nothing worked. One itinerary, no call center could do it, and over a period of a few months I stopped in at QR agents in Doha and other airports, and at the QR F lounge in Doha. At the DOH F lounge, an agent spent 45 minutes calling people in various departments, but no one was able to assign us EF seats. So, while some techniques sometimes work, there does not appear to be any guaranteed solution, at least as it appears now.

Exactly. I've had BA flights repeatedly trigger the alert for months even though the aircraft remained the same (I was booked in J, which never seemed to change, but presumably down the back changed).
Many thanks to you and DCtrAAveler.
I always assumed that the alert was triggered by the aircraft type. Clearly EF must have a code for the seat map type and that triggers the alert.
Very happy to know. I always found EF very useful but its service gets even better (I also like the numerous POS additions).

Is IAH permanently switching to QSuites in January 2019? The 772LR seems to show up everyday.

OK, thanks! Didn't realize the IAH route had that much demand to justify everyday flights!

QR and permanent are two words that should certainly never be used in the same sentence, especially when it comes to equipment question or timetables!

They have just replaced the 77W with Qsuites by an A380 on AR41/40 CDG.
I have a return ticket CDG-HKG in September/October and this is the fourth change involving a segment losing (3) or gaining (1) Qsuites

I gained to q suites on a recent trip. 1) Mucat to doha 2)Doha to BKK.

Whilst the suites are nice I still prefer the A380

As I am travelling with wifey, I prefer the E&F suites.
ut I agree that the AS80 window seats are great for solo pax, even if I like the suite privacy. Seeing people walking towards me in the aisle distract my movie viewing... On the other hand, the bar section is really nice...

Interesting.. QR774 from EZE to DOH (via GRU) is showing Qsuites for today's flight! It would be the first time flying this route (77K).

I always travel solo and the bar is a huge draw for me. Don't get me wrong the suite privacy is ace.

So has the bar on the 380 been removed on the new Qsuite versions or is it still there?
