Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Which routes have Qsuites?
Details and changes can be found in the various recent threads.

7EF is a no-no. We have not flown 1EF as we always avoided it because of galley noise and foot traffic. But no personal experience.

I am sure that you are aware that the config might change a few times if your flight is in several months.
So you'd pick 9EF over 1EF?

I know from experience that QR often changes configs many times (once, between checkin and the gate). I always set ExpertFLyer alerts for config changes. Although I think DFW has been very stable with the 1AM out of DOH and 11PM out of DFW flight being a 772, and the other flight an A351, so I don't expect it to change. And I have seat alerts for 3EF and 5EF.

May be the wrong thread, but couldn't find it through search. How many a359s are non-Qsuite still? (wiki is from April)

I have the outlier opinion of preferring the non-Qsuite seat. It's less claustrophobic, and at 6' 2", doesn't require weird contortions to get out without putting the seat all the way back up. Have DOH-CPT next year on a non-Qsuite a359 (as of now) and curious if I'll be lucky enough to have it stick.

For a group of 3, what would be the better choice of seats in A350-1000? We are currently in 4D, 4G and 4J. Im thinking if 4D will be too far to communicate as Im traveling with elderly parents who dont travel much. Does the partition come down between 4D and 4G? The only other choice now is replacing 4D with 2J or 6J. Im thinking its easier on same side of the aisle.

Most of the A359s are non QSuite. I think there's only a handful that are.

is this the same for the 777? Taking it next year (assuming no swaps) and contemplating between Row 1 and Row 8.

Row 8 may give you slim pickings from the menu.

The front 2 or 3 rows are in the section where the fuselage narrows. It's not a lot, but the fuselage straightens out around row 3 or 4.

Cabin service is usually split into 4 sections (6 on the A380) - right and left for rows 1-5 or 6, and right and left for rows 5/6 to 11/12. So row 8 will be broadly the same as row 3 for initial food choice availability, and that's before any initally unavailable requests are met with spares from the other 3 sections

is the suite in Row 1A/1K smaller than the others and what's the noise level like for both the "bulkhead" row 1 vs row 8? Sorry for all the questions - It's been years since I've taken the Qsuite and the last time I think I went for row 5!

My first leg is a night flight so food choice won't be as important - and I hope to fill up in the JAL Sakura Lounge before

Mia-doh 9k qsuite

Hello. Any feedback on seat 9K on MIA-DOH on 10Feb 24? I am aware that actual aircraft may change in the interim.

As well as seat 9K on QR returning from DOH to MIA.

Rearward facing in both directions. Any better seats recommended?

Thank you.

Been scouring the board and the net, and consensus seems to be A/K seats are the way to go. Right now I pretty much have my pick (other than DOH-JFK which is slightly more full but still many options). Would anyone select a different seat and why?

My main concerns are:
- rear-facing: Ive never flown rear facing, although it sounds like its non-factor for most
- noise from seat mate: Im fairly sensitive to noise and seat disturbance in close proximity; I dont like that my head will be next to 2B! Seems like this is unavoidable in most seats, are there seats where my head wont be next to another passenger? Also, noise I can deal with using noise cancellation but how noticeable is it if 2B (and 4B on the one flight) fidget a lot?
- cabin noise: I dont necessarily mind foot traffic but all the banging in the galley tend to get to me. As well as parties traveling together chatting to each other at high volumes

Thanks in advance! I guess this is what happens when spoilt for choice. Theres a saying in Hokkien my mum frequently uses in these situations which roughly translates to, I was so picky about which geng geng (longans) to pick from and I ended up picking the chao (rotten) one!. Dont let me end up with the chao geng geng!
So although I originally posted about a trip in February, I actually just took this same route so wanted to report back in case it helps anyone:
- rear-facing: did not bother me one bit! It is most apparent upon take off and landing, I forgot often that I was facing backwards so kept wondering when the plane would start going forwards for takeoff 🤣
- noise from seatmate: non-existent
- cabin noise: quietest flying experience in any J config Ive flown in (CX, SIN, QF, BA, AY, LX, AA, DL)

Sat in both 3A and 3K, prefer 3A because I dont have to cross over to the galley to the lavs. Also although right-handed, I actually preferred having the windows to my right and the little counter situation and side seat with storage to my left 🤷🏻‍♀️

Finally, service was impeccable. Truly made me feel special. Im only Oneworld Sapphire and not through QR.

I am wondering if anyone who experiences quite bad motion sickness can provide some insight. I originally selected seat 4J forward-facing on A350-900 due to concern about the rear-facing seat making my already bad motion sickness even worse. I then realised how claustrophobic the forward facing seats are due to the door being right next to the seat. I then switched the seat to the rear-facing 3K but now I'm concerned I'm going to be unwell most the flight. Can anyone with motion sickness provide some advice regarding the best seat to select ?

Has anyone been able to get the cancellation fee waived for a QR award ticket (issued via QR website) due to Qsuites no longer being available?

My flight originally had Qsuites, and I got the "Important: A change in Business Class on your flight" email informing me I'm no longer in Qsuites. Their chat agent told me I can only reschedule within +/- 21 days of the original date. I had them pull all the dates, and there was no Qsuites availability to change to. They supposedly talked to a supervisor and still refused to waive the cancellation fee despite there being no options to change to.

Is it worth to keep trying / calling in or will I be on the hook for the cancellation fee (which is just $25 per pax, but still annoying)?

$25 is pretty reasonable for cancelation of a business class seat not having QSuite. Qatar 1-2-1 configuration is not a bad setup at all. I would not cancel or change (unless better routing available) just because QSuite changes to 1-2-1. Better to pay $25pp than waste hours arguing it.

Seems like you are in a "pick your poison" situation. While I only traveled once backwards in Qsuite, I was in the center section (not a window seat). But when I looked across the person in the window seat (to look out the window) during takeoff and landing, I found it to be a bit disorienting. Probably because I was not used to facing in the opposite direction that the plane was traveling in. It was easily corrected- I stopped looking out the window. But while in the air, sitting backwards did not bother me at all.
But if you want to sit forward, and the claustrophobia is too bad, perhaps you can leave the door open?

Others that have actual window seat experience can perhaps chime in.

When you are on a boat at sea with motion sickness, the best thing is fresh air(out of luck there) and looking at the horizon. Your mind can't process the motion. So, get that window seat and look out the window during takeoff and at the horizon until your mind settles. Maybe looking backwards isn't the best seat for you. In my earlier years, I did aerobatics to be a better pilot, but never got air sickness. While I am thinking of it, do not drink any booze. It may come back to haunt you.
