Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Free flight change

I booked xxx-DOH-HKT round trip in 'R' back in February. I flew the outbound yesterday. While boarding in xxx, I got an EF alert that DOH-HKT had changed from Qsuite to non, and the email offering a free flight change came around then. What I'd really like to change is the return, which I booked as HKT-BKK-DOH-xxx, with HKT-BKK as a QR codeshare operated by Bangkok Air (because all options with HKT-DOH on a nonstop were way more money). I tried during the very long layover in DOH, but no one would touch it because DOH-HKT was checked in but not yet flown. Tried today, call center staff tell me they can't do it because (a) HKT-BKK is a codeshare; (b) if the outbound had a change they can't use that to change the inbound; (c) they can only change to a flight with Qsuite. I've seen reports pf people successfully using a change from Qsuite to non to change unrelated parts of the trip. Have QR tightened this policy, or is it a matter of calling again and again?

I suspect (b) and (c) may apply. But as the inbound is unchanged, and you have already flown the outbound so effectively accepted that, your option has likely passed. Others may have a different view or direct experience though

I tried while we were in DOH before flying to HKT to get the inbund changed. Al Mourjan lounge desk sent me to the transfer desk, transfer desk sent me to sales desk, sales desk told me to wait until after we landed in HKT. I'd also tried calling and using chat.

Yes, but you flew (so effectively accepted) the outbound which was the flighr that was changed (even if it was too late change that by then). I'd be surprised if you got any joy changing the return now, seems very unlikely. But pleased.for you if you do of course

The most recent attempt, the call center agent suggested I send a note to customer relations. I'm not even sure how to do that.

The Qsuite-change deal was that you can freely change from a non-Qsuite flight DOH-HKT on the outbound . Not that you can change the inbound.

I suspect you would be wasting your time (you may fly before they reply anyway), but try selecting "complaint" here:

I've seen multiple reports here where people had a Qsuite to non-Qsuite change on one flight and were able to change unrelated flights, including a change from Qsuite to non on the outbound allowing a change on the inbound (with the inbound change not being to Qsuite). It was reported that the policy was "one free flight change" without limitation to Qsuite or affected leg. But QR has in the past introduced a policy and then added restrictions over time (e.g., the "Fly with Confidence" policy). And of course in my case the change came after checking in for the flight.

So a quick question - just had an email saying that an upcoming flight (LHR-DOH) has been changed from Q-Suite to non-Q suite and offering a free change.

Logged in to see what has changed, and nothing has! It's still an A350-1000, seat map is still Q-Suite and I'm still in 3K - am I missing something? Do these take a while to update? Or has it simply changed and changed back? Weird...

Same thing happened to me twice - once on the Outbound and once on the Inbound, but when I got onto each of the planes, they were still indeed still Q-Suite. I think the notification goes out when a Non Q-Suite plane is scheduled for that route, but then last minute they add a Q-Suite plane back into the mix.

QSUITES recommendations

Hi,

Have a QSuites for dec 2023 from YUL (Montreal) to DOH

Been tracking tail numbers for past week and its been QSUITES. Hoping it wont be swapped. If it is, I should know a day prior as the inbound tail numbers are the same ones that fly back to DOH.

Currently I have seat 3K (B777). Is it the best option? 5k and 7k are open too. Reading some discussion above for best seats and want some recommendations. I would like window seat. Will this side of the plane by worse in terms of sun? Is it a real issue if we can just close the windows? Also, in terms of service, are there better options?

Thanks!

can I just point out the fact that Qatar Airways literally stopped installing Qsuites while ago and we have to live with everyday fear of flying old 2-2-2 B777? what a nightmare

Given the age of the 777 planes still on 2-2-2 (all 10+ years, in fact A7-BAA is already 16 years old and QR doesn't seem like an airline which will use 20+ years old plane), I suspect they might be removed from service in another few years when they have received more new planes instead of being retrofitted with Qsuite. Even the non-Qsuite A359 aren't getting retrofitted yet, perhaps they will get the new Qsuite when it's revealed and when the cabin is due for refurbishment?
