Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Which routes have Qsuites?

I had the same concern before my first ever rear facing flight, but now I strongly prefer this - there is just something about sleeping with you head in the same direction as the flight rather than your feet

I also find the rear facing Qsuites more roomy compared to the forward facing ones - but this may just be in my rear facing head

Ooh, interesting! As long as it doesn’t make me sick; I generally don’t get ill from flying so thinking it will be fine. Right now, most concerned with my head being so close to someone else’s in the upright seated position but I haven’t seen too many complaints about that so I’m probably worrying about nothing.

In any case I’m a bit of a nerd, so just excited in general to have a different flight experience!

Drink enough champagne and you won’t care which direction you’re facing

Is the consensus that 3A/K is better than 1A/K? Just curious since QR seems to like to block 1A/K which implies they think Row 1 is better for their best flyers.

Out of curiosity is Qatar still actively refurbing jets with Qsuites? Such as remaining 777s etc? I don't fly with Qatar often, but it feels that the percentage of fleet with Qsuites hasn't changed in a while?

I presume that with shortage of aircraft due to a350 grounding etc is playing a part here?

sense I have is that they block 1A/K for when their single status pax are unable to book window seats because they have all been taken - I have managed to get these assigned to me using their agents when only selectable seats were in the middle, but inside the seat, I have not noticed a difference

truthfully, for me, preferences aside, the only seats I would avoid would be the last few rows in the back half cabin as they are closer to the bassinet seats in Y and can be bothersome if kids are having a hard time... that being said the last couple flights I have had there were unhappy children in J

IMHO from my pilot days reason rear facing = better sleep is the plane flies at a 3-4 degree nose up config already so lie flat rear facing = head propped up ever so slightly perhaps unnoticeable to most.

I've got an upcoming flight from ATL-DOH-NBO and when I booked, they said Q-Suites and although this seems to be a route that often gets equipment swaps, I haven't seen a single change email and my online seat selector is still showing 1-2-1. My question, however, if the inevitable happens and they do change to the 2-2-2 config, will I have to re-choose my seats? I currently have 3E/F booked for both legs for my wife and I.

In my experience if the seats exist on the new configuration, which in your case they do, they will be carried over.

Had a change from Qsuite to non-Qsuite on a flight this Saturday. Regarding the following policy :

"If the change to non-Qsuite is verified, you are entitled to 1) one-time free change (+/- 21 days of the original date; new origin or destination within the same country or 500-mile radius from the original origin or destination)"

An agent told me that as I have a redemption ticket, I can't change the origin, has anybody had any luck doing this? Is it a strict rule or will a "nice" agent do it for me?

I think they changed the policy about 18 months ago to disallow route changes.

Yes upon further discussions online with different agents I finally found that out! Now can somebody please tell me the 2-2-2 J isn't so bad lol? I've never flown in it before, we're a couple so privacy isn't an issue, but I'd love to get a good nights sleep?!

For a couple, window/isle is not too bad. It is pretty comfortable.
Very little privacy, but open and decent for sleep.

If I am +1 on the 2-2-2, I prefer the bulk head window/isle.

None of the planes are bad for sleeping. We had a QSuite swapped for 1-2-1 and slept fine in the two middle seats. -shrug- QSuite is definitely nicer for that couple-y double bed feeling, though!
