Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

It will (eventually) be across the fleet in B777s and A350s. There will be a new seat development for the B787s as this new seat can’t fit in the 787.

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230 (probably going 3-4-3 in Y, from 217)
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

I'd be absolutely fuming! You should put a formal complaint with the manager at the Quatar Airline.

Nope. First of all the A350 is a much nicer plane to fly in and I also prefer the old A350 seat and openness of the cabin.

Haha I'm disappointed, not fuming so I'll skip the email to tell-us at quatarairline dot com. 🙃

For me, sleeping is the primary advantage of being in a Qsuite. The extra privacy makes it much easier for me to sleep.

To each their own. I fly with my spouse in the center seats, so for us, the 777 is a much nicer plane, as its center seats have overhead bins and air nozzles, and a much better lavatory-to-passenger ratio. And for us, the Qsuite is worlds better than any other airline's business class. I think it's arguably better than QR's first class, as it's much more private.

If you have a window seat on the old 2-2-2 style 777 seats - how does leaving your seat work if your neighbour is fully reclined? Not been able to see it clearly on the photos, is there some space for you to shimmy around?

Step over carefully and pray you don't trip.

Noted! Hopefully just one of the four flights on my round trip are non-Qsuite so I'll probably go for a seat in the middle.

It helps if you have long legs

How many hours before scheduled takeoff can we consider equipment "locked in"? Or is there really no telling for sure until the plane is already physically at the gate?

For an ex-DOH flight, it can change (and for me has changed) up until boarding. For a flight to DOH, it's fixed once the inbound flight has departed DOH and is heading to the airport where it will turn.

I have a reservation hold for SFO-DOH-MLE for February 2023. I really want to try the Qsuites product, but reading all these equipment swap stories + A35K grounding stories makes me nervous. What percentage of QR's fleet is Qsuite equipped? It it just the 12 77Ws that are Qsuite-less at this point? Does QR prioritize the A35K for longer routes like DOH-West Coast US?

SFO-DOH-SFO legs are showing Qsuite on the seat map and being operated by an A35K. DOH-MLE legs are 77W showing the old 2-2-2 which is fine given the short duration of that flight.

Hi all I am a little late to book a trip for in a couple weeks so seat selection for Q Suites is limited. I can be in the front J section which I much prefer but I would have to take a B or J seat and not have the true window seat thus having the door very close to the seat.

I was just worried as it looks like it could be an easy and constant arm/elbow bump? Or even maybe a bit claustrophobic with the door so close. If i want an A or K I have to go to the rear cabin last row which is not ideal for me, closer to the lavs & economy.

Would be curious to get opinions as to taking the preferred location or the true window seat?

Also, i doubt this will happen as travel is getting busier but will the FA's allow a solo passenger to use the middle seats and make a double bed or even if its empty after take off do they frown on this?

In my experience, QR does seem to use mostly Qsuite planes for U.S. West Coast. Also, if you ticket on QR rather than another airline, QR will let you change your trip one time for free if it switches from Qsuite to non-Qsuite, so if need be, you could switch from, say SFO to LAX (can take a 90-minute AS flight to connect). February 2023 is a long way off, I would expect the groundings to be resolved by then. When you do book something, I'd suggest setting EF alerts for equipment changes and schedule changes (and re-arming them if they fire).
