Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.
They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.
The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.
All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.
Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

would you mind telling me when you request this? When your board, right after take off, do you move your stuff in to mark your territory upon boarding?

Even after the boarding complete announcement, it is at least courteous to ask the crew before moving as they may already have those double seats earmarked for other passengers or crew rest.
Of course the surefire way to mark your territory on a pair of seats before take off is to purchase 2 tickets

I've never really had to mark territory but I usually ask when the FA comes around to take the first food orders. I guess if the flight were close to full, I would ask earlier but it hasnt been the case for me thus far.

And if I did not prefer the one they handed me, I was always offered a different choice as well. I think my post was misunderstood. Bottom line, they will give you whatever you want, whenever you want it. There, clarified.

This was always my system. Board early, get the PJs, get belongings properly stored like wallet and shoes, and change into PJs for the next 14 hours.

Cabins are far from "so empty these days". Jam-packed in most cases. DOH is jam-packed. I've been on QSuites flights the past two months that were fully booked in biz. My upcoming flight this Thursday on a A350-1000 is *fully booked* in biz. Looking at the week on ExpertFlyer, some days have seats, some are fully booked (biz) or close to it.
Yes, they have PJ's, they run big on sizing.
I've never seen a single pax in a double bed, but if any airline would try to accommodate you, it's QR.

Is expertflyer correct with the Qsuites middle seats, or do they all just show occupied after a departure always? There never seems to be any middle row seats that fly empty.

Expertflyer is correct. If you see a seat marked in solid blue, there is a passenger in it. If you see solid blue with a white X, then it’s empty but blocked. The large majority of my QR flights have been completely full in business recently. Simply a function of increased demand and relatively low supply (with QR being one of the very few airlines flying certain routes, if not the only one).

There's always a chance for a plane change from a Qsuite to a non-Qsuite (aka their new "business class"). In fact it happened to me on my IAD-DOH flight three weeks ago. Qatar sent me an email a day before the flight informing me of this change. They give you an option to change the flight at no extra charge... I didnt have to be anywhere urgently, so I made the change to the next day to a Q-Suite flight.

I am considering booking very soon IAD-DOH-BOM and have been hesitating because of the Qsuite to non-Qsuite changes close to departure date. Thanks.
