Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.
They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.
The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.
All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.
Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

This whole situation got me thinking. Are the free changes strictly to another QSuites product? I'm tempted to try to arrange HKG-CAN-DOH or even just CAN-DOH simply because I love the A380 on-board bar.

So no, it's not limited to change to Qsuite flight.

I have a flight to HKG this weekend and whilst the Qatar MMB seat map shows Q-Suite, ExpertFlyer is showing non-Q suite. I guess I should trust the latter?!
Rather disappointed if only for the fact I had hoped to have Super Wifi to have a reasonable chance of streaming the RWC Quarter Finals via VPN!

That's great! Do you guys think there is any chance QR would agree to the routing HKG-CAN-DOH? The J product on the A380 would be a significant upgrade, in my opinion, to the non-Q 77W, which is the reason why I want to get rid of my original flight. There doesn't seem to exist a fare with that routing (checked via ITA). Would that be a problem, or can they force anything they like if they want?

I am a Qatar/Q-Suite newbie. Just put my first flight on hold this morning. It didn't occur to me to ask this question.

OMG, this is so complicated! I called QR and they told me to call the OTA. Guess what the OTA told me to do And both parties say that they will not call each other, despite QR providing a phone number that I was supposed to give to the OTA (Supersaver). Now I'm trying to get QR to write a remark on the reservation or something so that the OTA will be able to make the change free of charge. Any "magic" words or phrases to say to either party?

Here's an update: QR checked that my QSuites flight had indeed been downgraded to normal J. They added a note/remark/message/whatever to the reservation for the OTA to see. The OTA that I called twice, as you probably already guessed, could not locate the remark. Eventually, the OTA got tired of me calling and authorized the transfer of the reservation to QR. I called QR and despite mentioning something about a change fee the agent was able to change my flight for free. Of course, there is a twist involved. Even though there are seats available on my new flight, the seat map only shows one seat to be chosen, while my reservation has two people. I'm, not worried about this at all, but it is, nevertheless, annoying.

Thanks! I guess I'll have to do that. Does anyone know how keen QR is on adding non-QR legs in case of QSuites swaps? For example, changing ARN-DOH to ARN-HEL-DOH (simply to avoid the bad lounge).

My HKG-DOH QR817 in November has changed from QSuite 77W to 2-2-2 J 77W. I would like to change my flight for free to QR815 the following day, even if that flight does not have QSuites either (currently it has). Has anyone done this or something similar? My booking is through an OTA. In the past, on other airlines, this has not been an issue in case of schedule changes, which I assume this is similar to.
Update: called QR and was told that they are only able to make changes to flights 4 days before departure. They also told me that they will guide OTAs on how to make changes free of charge for customers.

When I booked, all 4 legs were Q-suite. About 1 month before my flight both of the flights that were ex-DOH became 777 2-2-2 (QR818 return) and A350 old config (DOH-MXP).
On the day, both flights went back to Qsuite, so all 4 legs were Qsuite in the end. Even better, the DOH-MXP segment became A350-1000!
I think its hard to predict what will happen with the scheduling... Since the QR818 that I just took was changed to 777 2-2-2 then back to 777 Qsuite, then that means that tonight's QR817 also changed to a Qsuite...
Definitely understand the frustration but luck can still go your way!
Someone posted a link here before about the % chance of Qsuite per route. Unfortunately HKG is only ~50-60%, whereas PVG/BKK were basically 100%.
