Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Which routes have Qsuites?
Details and changes can be found in the various recent threads.

Looks like there's really no space for the legs where Big Boss is sitting,
so he's just pretending it's comfortable

Looks as though QR are going to push this new cabin hard, even months before it appears in service.
If I encounter any four men/women business meetings on board one of my future flights they'd better keep the noise down - otherwise they'll get an earful from me.

Well, I'm just hoping for plane diversity instead of the QSuite. Like replacing the 777-200LR for an A350 in the NRT-DOH leg. With or without QSuite

CrazyBird further to my earlier reply (Post 205) there appears to be a change in plans. According to http://www.qatarairways.com/english_...seatreveal_eng "The new QSuite concept will be retrofitted on to the existing Qatar Airways fleet starting from June 2017, at an estimated rate of one aircraft a month."

This mens that there will go FIVE years before all the current A350, A380 and B777 aircraft are equipped with QSuites. Then it will be time to start thinking about the B787s, and possibly the A330s!

I was wondering the same thing. If you are somehow able to "project" your screen onto another seat, that would be pretty cool.

But in parallel, it would also suck to have to listen to a sales pitch when trying to relax on a flight.

The horror of it really. Imagine having wifi and having to travel with colleagues with some nutter thinking this is great working time. I always select seats at different aisle when possible when travelling with colleagues.

Is the fixed table in the middle the only tray table? If so, seems uncomfortable.

I wonder what QR would say to two guys in a relationship booking these "love seats" in the middle to take advantage of the created double bed?

according to HFP this morning its LHR

"The first plane to receive the new seat, a 777, will be flying between Heathrow and Doha. The start date was announced as June but Qatar has a track record of running late so dont make any speculative bookings (Al Baker was blaming the delays on Airbus at the press conference). Paris and New York will follow and if everything goes according to plan all A350 and 777 will have the Qsuite by mid to end of 2018."

credit goes to HFP for the above and hope it does break any rules...

The info was within the Press Briefing yesterday, and appears further upthread, so no worries about the HfP quote - I'm sure raffles won't mind!

AAB's statements at the press conference were different. First, he said that retrofitting will take place at two locations, -- the QR base at DOH and an unspecified contractor base in Europe. To me, that would indicate more than one/month. Also, he said that the entire retrofitting program would be complete within 2018. Perhaps there were additional developments after the script/press release were written.

Just a number of points:

- Seat is not the Zodiac Fusio but rather a custom solution from B/E Aerospace.

- The seats do have arm rests on both sides that can be raised or lowered. They are in the lowered position in most press photos.

- The seats are narrower than the existing BE Super Diamond at its widest point (seat pan) but wider at other points.

- The "honeymoon" seats are only about 25% of the cabin, so loadactors in business have to be above 75% before you are forced to pick one of those seats assuming no other couples booked them (in which case the load factors have to be even higher). There are dividers if you end up stuck in those seats with a stranger.

- Roll-out might start at one per month (as per the QR press release) but at the media event it was mentioned that it will be 2-3 per month. I suspect it would be a standard case of learning curve and production ramp up of the seat limiting the rate of retrofits in the beginning but increasing later on.

- There are a number of service and amenity upgrades such as bedding and new catering options that will be rolled out.

- For sure there are compromises and trade-offs, for one the seats are narrower than the existing 777 business class seat. For the detractors, I would suggest to wait and try the seats as it seems the people that visited the stand had a better impression than those that saw the launch videos and press photos.

- Going from previous experience, I'm sure the seats will have small design mods with time to deal with issues that pop up in real life usage.

How about this?

https://www.panasonic.aero/2016/04/0...aircraft-oems/

Panasonic expects its NFC technology also will be used by airlines for a wide range of non-payment applications including:

More secure synchronization of personal data
Recognition of a passengers Frequent Flyer status, giving access to benefits or promotions, such as free Wi-Fi for Gold members
Crew check in and check out
Pairing of NFC-enabled devices with the embedded IFEC system, allowing airlines to push information to passengers during their flight

The point about noise is a good one...particularly on quiet airframes such as the 350 and 380.
