Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

I just took my first Qsuite flights on the 777 from NRT-DOH and then DOH-MLE on the A350. I have to say these were the best business flights I have taken. I tried the double bed on the 777 which felt really spacious and the single suites on the A350. I liked the privacy. The only thing I didn’t care for is the small cubby hole for the feet which made it difficult to sleep as it’s pretty constricting since it’s slightly at an angle.

This is a 77L route; and IIRC, there are still one or two 77L airframes that have not yet been converted.
No. I departed 4/22. They changed out the 772 to a 773ER at the last minute, hence why there were no Qsuites without telling anyone.

It wasnt the worst, but for 16 hours I would not have booked the old product for a flight that long and was really disappointed.

16 hours in the old configuration was really hard.
It has been Q suite 77L for all flights except 3 in the last 30 days including your 77W and 2 non Q Suite 77L flights. Rare, but as with QR, always possible (and frankly just about any airline).

sidebar: I think "hard" might be a bit much no? I get that there's no direct aisle access but is that your major gripe with it?

So it was very bad luck. It’s hard for me because I suffer from Crohn’s disease and need to constantly get up to take medicine and use the restroom.

If traveling with my spouse or a friend, 16 hours in a 2-2-2 777 is fine: not as enjoyable as in a Qsuite but still far better than most long-haul J. But if traveling alone, the lack of privacy would be quite annoying. I've flown between LAX and DOH a number of times in the 2-2-2 777, luckily always with someone I like being in close proximity to for an extended period of time.

I always take the E or F seats in that configuration so I always have aisle access without climbing over anyone, and without anyone having to climb over me.

That's great when one knows it will be a 2-2-2 configuration. It's understandable that someone traveling alone and booking what is showing as a Qsuite configuration would book a window seat, and so be unpleasantly surprised to discover the plane has been switched to 2-2-2 and is now forced to clamber past a seatmate.

Which old J? 1-2-1 or older 2-2-2?

The only thing I can suggest is to check the inbound flight to find out early what type it is. the U.S. is far enough away that you can know what type of a/c it is at least 15 hours before your flight departs the U.S., as soon as the inbound departs DOH. Unfortunately unannounced a/c changes are a fact of life, and not only on QR.

I was merely remarking on your comment in reply to @NWplatinum, which to my reading (not sure if you meant it that way) seemed to be implying that it was @NWplatinum's own fault for getting stuck in a window seat. It seems that it was the DOH-IAD flight that was switched last-minute. Since the flight originated in DOH, I am not sure how @NWplatinum was supposed to know 15 hours in advance, and it's also unclear if any window seats were unoccupied. By the way, for reference, here is the post that started it:

Then the flight to IAH is long and was looking forward to the QSuites on a 772. Of course I get on board and it’s the old 2x2x2 on a 773 they switched out at the last minute. And I’m in a window seat stuck because I get up a lot. This change was done last minute and really makes me mad because of the length of the Flight. So that’s 3/4 Qsuite configurations duped out of. Beware!

Oh, that's not what I meant at all. Sorry about that. I found his dislike of the 2-2-2 seats unusual because most people seem to like them, although I don't.

Thanks for everyone’s comments regarding my experience. I can only chalk it up to extremely terrible luck. This was also the first time I flew Qatar.

I definetely wouldve taken the E/F seats in the middle had I had ANY notice of the AC change.

I know officially I shouldn’t be entitled to any miles back, but I would never have booked such a long trip had they not done last minute plane swaps.

Its such a shame too because the Qsuite in my opinion was I would say as good as EK F.

If it’s any conciliation, today, both DOH-IAH and DOH-LAX are currently being operated by non Qsuite 77L’s.

Side note, any reason why AKL has back to back Qsuite flights?
