Paid upgrade J to F

Paid upgrade J to F
Hi all,
I have a booking (VCE-DOH-BKK) rtn all booked in I class and would like to upgrade one of the A380 sectors to F for the experience.
I have tried looking through flyertalk and other sources of info however most upgrade info is on mileage currency.
Is there a pro active way to pay for an upgrade or do I just have to wait and see if it gets offered?
I am not currently a member of the Qatar privilege club but would be happy to join should it make the above more straight forward.

Call and ask for the cost to upgrade one leg. This will be the fare difference between J and F but assuming there is availability will give the solution you are looking for.
