Hi Andy ...they took photocopies of both credit card and passport and I had to fill in / sign a form or 2 .For sure it was rather more than just handing the card over for them to see .This all happened at the gate and was mildly time consuming due to simultaneous boarding processes going on .If you re transitting and have no contact with them in the departure hall... Maybe prudent to get to the boarding lounge early

I will be flying ex-HEL, ex-ARN & ex-AMS in the coming weeks/months. I am based in DUB and all those trips have been paid for by a Germany-issued LH M&M Mastercard without any problems ^

But equally it's hard to understand how they can justify sending an image of your card and a statement via an insecure communication channel, cos that is definitely not in spirit of good PCI (payment card industry) practice. I have had airlines ask to see the payment card at check in before, and made that clear in the booking process, but never to start emailing copies of cards and other ID around.
QR do not require the card image/photocopy in my experience.
And on the statement, if not already done from the CC institute, you can obscure the CC numbers leaving just the last 4 digits.

If it is a reognised, registered ompany or institution ther is usually no checks made.
If you patý via a payment service such as Paypal then there are no checks. If you have paid using the exact same credit card before then very often there are no checks made.
In Denmark you only need to present the CC used for payment at the airport check-in, where they check the card number only, if verification has been requested and you ignore the verification process. How many other countries have those rules I do not know.
This whole verification process is PROBABLY just so that QR can tick a box in order to requalify for five star status. They have no need to do so if payment is received by them.

Exactly. I'm based in PAR and bought ex-TUN and ex-CAI tickets without any CC verification by QR except VISA 3D secure check at the time of paying.

I just booked a flight for me and my son from Hanoi to Bangkok with Qatar just because we thought it would be nice to fly on a different carrier.
Used my credit card for both of us and got an e-mail asking me to send a copy of my credit card as well as passport.

I have no problem with having to show my credit card at check-in but this goes to far especially for a $ 127 per person ticket.

I have e-mailed them that I am not willing to send my information over the internet and that if they are not willing to accept my payment to cancel my ticket and issue a full refund.
If I simply don't respond to their request of credit card an passport copy, will they cancel the ticket automatically? At this point I am hoping they will do that as this is just to much and frustrating.
The payment currently shows "pending" on my credit card and I might just call the card provider tomorrow to dispute the charge.

They won't cancel the transaction if it's a commercial dispute, which this is.

yvrcnx welcome to the QR forum.

Some years ago I was in the same situation and I contacted a local QR office. There I was told that I need not supply that information provided I could present the credit card used for the purchase for inspection at check-in at the airport. In this case if you use OnLine Check-In (OLCI) then you will not get a boarding card but a request to present your ticket for control at the airport.

You can avoid this stupid situation by either using a TA or OTA or other recognised company or by using an accepted verification process such as 'Verified by Visa'. The other 'recognised company' could be a system such as Paypal.

I do not know if the rules of this madness have changed but others will say if they have.

WorldLux since payment is 'pending' there is no reservation! How can there be? It is first a reservation when QR accept payment and they are refusing to do so!

I was referring to the possibility of chargeback on the card. Unless you (the card holder) did not authorise the transactions, chargeback are much more difficult/impossible.

Thanks everyone for the responses. After sending them my e-mail 'Qatar Support' did reply within an hour with this response, which I am pleased with and which I am used having to do with other, especially Asian carriers:

e-mail #1:

Dear yvrcnx,

Since you are not comfortable in providing the requested documents, you can verify your card at the time of check-in on the day of arrival.

Please confirm your preferences to complete the card verification.

e-mail #2:

Dear yvrcnx,

This is to confirm that payment card verification will be required for your recent booking with Qatar Airways (booking reference: XXXXX).

Your reservation is active, and the card holder will be required to present the credit card used to purchase your tickets at the counter when checking in. Failure to do so may result in you not being able to board your flight, and additional fees may be charged depending on the fare conditions of your ticket in accordance with Qatar Airways General Conditions Of Carriage and the terms and conditions of your ticket,

We look forward to welcoming you onboard soon.

Yours sincerely,
Qatar Airways Support
