Cheers. I see the inbound flight for the one schedule to leave HND tonight at midnight is in flight, but the outbound is showing as Re-scheduled. No word on to when. Same for the 24/10 flight

I first thought the thread to be about yet another equipment change

I agree - an incredible view and even at 41,000 feet they don't seem all that far away!

I do not understand why they insist on closing all the window blinds shortly after take-off during a daytime flight. It's completely the wrong thing to do for your circadian rhythm and if anyone does want to sleep they can use eye shades!

I think it will be difficult to predict. The forecasts are showing winds of up to 100kph overnight in Tokyo but so far there have been very few international flight cancellations (at least from Haneda).

This is what Haneda looked like this afternoon. It wasn't too bad at that point - a bit of turbulence inflight and a slightly unpleasant landing through some crosswind (but I think that is probably typical of Nagasaki).

According to http://www.hko.gov.hk/wxinfo/currwx/tc_gis_e.htm Severe typhoon Lan was about 5-600 km from Tokyo at 21.00 JST 22 October. It is thought to have passed Tokyo between 03.00 and 05.00 JST 23 October.

Boozing up the passengers + reducing lights = sleepy passengers => less work.

I had the blinds raised several times over the flight and we flew way too north to see the Himalayas (though we passed some impressive mountain ranges). The scenery was simply amazing. I doubt that many passengers noticed that we flew a hold over Qarqan/Qiemo town and that we manoeuvred past a massive storm over Beijing: You could the lighting in the clouds. There were probably two passengers in J (including me) that were glued to the window.

How long into the flight from DOH do you cross the himalayas? I want to set my alarm to make sure I'm looking out!

I think you'd get a better view on the right side of the aircraft around 2.5-3 hours into the flight (although I was sitting on the left side and it was still pretty impressive).

If it's clear and a similar flight path you should be able to get a good view of K2.

travellingjake the seat map for a cabin/flight will not be shown if there is a change of equipment when seats will usually be randomly reallocated and blocked. Another frequent reason is for being unable to select seats is that there are no selectable seats in the cabin.

QR have a little, mostly useful, quirk in that only those seats that passengers select and blocked seats are shown on the seat map. Seats for passengers who do not choose their seat themselves are not shown as they are not yet allocated. However when the cabin starts to become full (1-3? unsold seats) then temporary allocations are made. When there is no choice available the seat choice button on MMB disappears.

Yes, the seat selection and meal choice disappeared for a couple of months already. I had no equipment change besides the switch in DOH-HND from 787 to A359 but even then I was able to select a new seat.

Depends on the route. DOH-NRT/HND either takes a northerly route (in which case: seat on the right) or it takes a longer route over India and the golden triangle in which case I'd probably pick the left side (though I haven't flown that routing yet).

Thanks remdk. The last equipment change was from the 787 to the A350 a few weeks back and i was able to select seats then. Interestingly, I can see lots of available seats on the A350 in the GDS.

If just 1 of the sectors on the booking was blocked for seat changes, would that remove the option for all sectors?

In my experience, 1 sector being blocked for seat changes has not affected other sectors in my bookings, they have remained available to manage seat assignments.

Enjoy the A350!
