QR Dulles Flight Emergency Landing in Azores

QR flight 708 bound for Doha from Washington Dulles made an emergency landing at Lajes Air Base in Azores, Portugal at around 2 a.m EST. According to American Bazaar the plane hit a massive air pocket and says one person suffered a heart attack while there were other injuries. See Washington Post story and the American Bazaar stories below.

Thanks for posting!

Sounds like an unfortunate experience, and evidently some damage to the plane was incurred - otherwise why else send another plane to the base.

Alternatively, the plane was sent from another US destination, as the IAD flight wasn't that busy.

Hope all passengers and crew make a full recovery.

Looks like very poorly handled by QR..coming from Dulles would mean transit visas could be granted provided airline made the effort.

I'm flying on the aircraft involved in the incident (A7-BAN) in a few hours CAI-DOH (it's currently operating DOH-CAI).

Let's hope any turbulence-related damage to the aircraft has been identified and remedied.
