Short connections at DOH (under 90 minutes)

Preparation is the key to having a comfortable short transfer at DOH. There should be no need to rush but you do need to be aware of where you are going.

Preparation:
Before you travel make sure that you have a reliable map of the airport such as doh-airport This map in spite of a number of errors is the best overall map of the departure areas available. The map has two gates B7, two gates C5 and the D and E gates are not numbered. Bus gates are not shown either.
The bus gates are located one floor down as follows: C20-C29 just by Gate C10, D20-24 and E20-24 are situated at the confluence of the C, D and E wings at the North node.
You should ask for "Rapid Transfer Tag"s for your luggage at Check-In.
Shortly before landing the aircraft's IFE usually displays a list of connecting flights with gate numbers so that you can find your departure gate. If it is not shown ask the cabin crew.

Recently I had a 65 minute transfer from gate B10 to gate C12 with security checks. I even managed 25 minutes in the lounge because I was well prepared!

If your flight is late arriving and your transfer time falls to under 45 minutes then QR staff will usually meet you at the gate and guide you to your connecting flight.

Follow the Arrival at DOH. (Disembarking) guide until you enter the departure area.

Check to see you know where you are and how to get to your departure gate.

I’m in transit UK - Doha - Penang next week and am wondering about transit security. Is there a list of arrivals that do/do not have to go through security before access to departures airside? Or is it seemingly random?

To be fair doha security is very quick and efficient. I think most UK departures do not clear security again, but I might be wrong.

Transfer security or not: depending on you coming from a trustworthy origin, it's random whether you tip out onto the main concourse or the floor above to go through transfer security. An origin with multiple flights per day arriving into DOH will typically have some/all going though security and some/none not.

70 mins transit - time for a shower?

Have a connection through DOH next week, first time on QR for years and through the new airport. Flying Y, OWS, arriving from NBO so imagine that I'll have to reclear security. With a 70 minute transit time (0635-0745) do I have any chance of a shower? And can anyone point me towards a terminal map - the link in the wiki/OP is now broken....
Thanks

thanks guys, very helpful. So wherever I arrive, I need to head for the main plaza for the lounges (look for the teddy bear, right?) and then it's onwards to the appropriate concourse for departure gate.

Does 70 mins give me any chance of a shower? [think that i'd be in the QR business lounge as OWS in Y]

Stewie Mac you are at the airport at the busiest time of day so your chances of a shower are virtually zero. Also it is the period of the Eid Al Adha holiday which results in a large number of Qataris travelling

thanks remdk I'll set my expectations appropriately. And perhaps bring along an apology card for my seatmate on the next flight...

Interesting tidbit about it being Eid Al Adha. I’ll be flying through DOH Sunday morning, will QR be restricting booze at the AM lounge like they do during Ramadan?

Is there any definitive evidence to confirm or debunk this? I have a 50m connection coming up with a LHR-DOH-MNL and could use a spare 10minutes shower and refreshment stop on the lounge.

We had a Christmas (23 Dec) flight arriving DOH from ARN at 5.55am (on time) and leaving for BKK at 07.15. We went straight through security (very quick, we were first in queue due to J ticket + fast track), but it took forever to get to the next gate. We ended up running to make boarding on time as BKK flight was other end of the airport.

The time wasn't due to security, just due to distances between the gates - one side of airport to the other and stopping for toilet break and to fill water bottles. No time for lounge. But appreciate this is probably an outlier in terms of data points.

Thanks - have done the DOH-BKK flights many times and agree it's quite doable. Slumming it in Y but even then have had never had long security queues, but going up the slow escalator and through security does take at least 10 minutes.

My question was actually referring specifically to whether security screening is required for ex-UK flights. I have never seen it advertised anywhere that it is NOT required so have always assumed it is, but would love to see evidence to suggest otherwise.

You would be very lucky to clear security, access the lounge and get a shower. I have always had to wait at least 10 minutes in Al Mourjan , sometimes 45 minutes. There is usually less of a wait in the first class lounge, where I have had showers on demand but again sometimes a 30 minute wait. Remember they start boarding yoiur next flight circa 45 minutes before departure. If your connection time is only 50 minutes, I would suggest you proceed directly to your departure gate.

Thanks, as a lowly Y flyer I only get access to the so-called Business Lounge, where on multiple occasions my shower wait time has been between 0-5 minutes. But agreed, this would only work if security clearance is not required.
