Short connections at DOH (under 90 minutes)

Preparation is the key to having a comfortable short transfer at DOH. There should be no need to rush but you do need to be aware of where you are going.

Preparation:
Before you travel make sure that you have a reliable map of the airport such as doh-airport This map in spite of a number of errors is the best overall map of the departure areas available. The map has two gates B7, two gates C5 and the D and E gates are not numbered. Bus gates are not shown either.
The bus gates are located one floor down as follows: C20-C29 just by Gate C10, D20-24 and E20-24 are situated at the confluence of the C, D and E wings at the North node.
You should ask for "Rapid Transfer Tag"s for your luggage at Check-In.
Shortly before landing the aircraft's IFE usually displays a list of connecting flights with gate numbers so that you can find your departure gate. If it is not shown ask the cabin crew.

Recently I had a 65 minute transfer from gate B10 to gate C12 with security checks. I even managed 25 minutes in the lounge because I was well prepared!

If your flight is late arriving and your transfer time falls to under 45 minutes then QR staff will usually meet you at the gate and guide you to your connecting flight.

Follow the Arrival at DOH. (Disembarking) guide until you enter the departure area.

Check to see you know where you are and how to get to your departure gate.

Presumably the escort is also your safety net as that way they can't say you have missed their conformance times for getting to the gate etc.

I am guessing given these marketed short transfer times that LHR >> DOH >> Asia flights will have your bags checked right through, and you don't clear immigration there, just stay airside the whole way from plane to plane right?

Well, I did decide to check in early and was able to secure a seat in row 1. Just as well as the incoming flight to DOH was on time. Thanks for all the advice.

For the record your guesses are correct. Sometimes transfer passengers don't even have to go through DOH security between inbound and outbound flights.

Glad to hear - Row 1 is actually quite spacious in the foot-wells.

Safe travels,

Great - thanks. I guess if it were continually not working they'd adjust the timings right? I am assuming most of the time that routing works ok.

Short Connection

Have around 90 mins at DOH before onward flight to PER (in J). QR allowed me to book so assume it meets the MCT. A bit concerned as to what might happen if we are even slightly late- ?offloaded ?travel the next day as hotels booked for scheduled arrival. Thanks

mkdoc since the MCT at DOH is 45 minutes your flight would have to be very late to miss your connection!

Look at the Wikis on the QR dashboard widget about-doh-airport and especially the short-connections-doh-under-90-minutes.

Should you miss the ample connection through no fault of your own QR will either reroute you to PER or acommodate you in a hotel and put you on the next flight.

I have requested the moderators to move these posts to the short-connections-doh-under-90-minutes thread.

Should have no issue and might even have time for a shower at the lounge if not a long line- or a nice meal. DOH extremely efficient.

I've got my first ever transit through DOH next week, inbound on QR292 from Prague - QR870 to Shanghai. It's a 55 minute connection, which is a little tighter than I'd usually be happy with at a new (to me) airport. The inbound regularly seems to be 10-25 minutes early.

I am as well-prepared as I think I can be (and I have no mobility issues, so if needs be can run) thanks to the advice in the Wiki. However, is there anything I need to be aware of at the moment - e.g. disruptions/building work within the terminal, etc? And if it looks like we're running late or hitting the MCT, how likely am I to be met at the aircraft by QR staff? And what's the procedure if either I'm not, or if it's clear I'm not going to make it (e.g. if we're 25+ minutes late)?

What cabin class are you travelling in? In J and F you'll be met and brought to the next gate if your connection is really tight.

Thanks JasperT - I’m in J. Overall, hopefully nothing to worry about, then!

Since when? QR left me stranded twice this year on tight connections, both times traveling in J. Both times missed due incapable management of arrival security checks, even when actively trying to skip queue and raise attention. Ground services at DOH still suck when you need them.

Since.. Not sure, but they did late October when we had a delay coming in from CDG, they told us they only do this for J/F pax.
Was it a busgate?

Perhaps, when they know you wouldn't make it even with them fast tracking you they don't bother, I don't know.
Well, most ME carriers have problems with giving consistent service on the ground..

I had 2 J class trips (first from SIN to Madrid and 2nd from SIN to Munich) which was only 1 hour turn around. Both times my flight arrived in DOHA late and I was whisked away by the ground staff. There were no security checks at all.

However, my luggage didn't arrive in Munich as planned. What pissed me off is that the ground staff in Munich already know about the luggage delay but they didn't come forward to announce it. Luckily I felt something wrong when most of the luggage are out. I had plans to travel to Berlin 2-3 hours after I arrived Munich. The luggage arrived almost 48 hours later in Berlin.

Yes it p***es me off that airlines often are not proactive and tell you the bags did not make the flight (I have even been told once or twice on the plane) . There is nothing worse than waiting for the last bag only to find yours is not there and then to rub salt into the wound the ground staff knew and did nothing
