ARN-DOH-JNB is EUR 1700, and DUB-DOH-BKK is about EUR 2200. These fares for the same dates which to me suggests capacity isn't an issue either DOH-JNB or DUB-DOH. Back of a fag packet analysis I know..

My wife is actually in a holiday mood so the timing would be extremely handy!

Looking to book UK to BKK Jan 18 in J. Prices still in excess of Ł3000 except EDI-BKK which is half. Will there be any better offers to come or is it worth travelling up to EDI from London?

There are some reasonable fares from VCE as well.
On the other hand, it's not unlikely something even cheaper and closer to the UK might turn up - Jan 2018 is still quite far away.

Incredible Y & F Class Deals out of Egypt
I know this is not new to most of you, but QA has some incredible business and first class fares originating from Egypt. The currency devaluation has made flights even cheaper. Originating from Cairo there are excellent fares but if you originate in smaller airports like Alexandria or Luxor they are incredible, for example:
Alexandria - Sydney (Y): 53,000 EGP/ 3000 USD
Alexandria - Sydney (F): 82,000 EGP/ 4530 USD
Luxor - Japan (Y) : 26,000 EGP / 1400 USD ,
Some incredible stuff if you are flexible with dates and originating airports.

There's TG from MXP, SQ from ARN, AI from CDG/FRA etc.
BTW: The letter for business is C (or J). First ist F (Premium economy is W or Y+). Y is economy and Y to Sydney at 3,000USD isn't exactly a good deal.
Edit: The EUR/EGP rate hasn't really changed since the drop in November. The EGP recovered a little in February but dropped down to 0.05€. Same goes for the USD/EGP exchange rate.

Sorry to say this, but those aren't great deals. QR had MXP/BRU-JPY during the last sale for 1,100 to 1,300€ thus avoiding to have to fly into Egypt in the first place. And there are currently better deals in C from Europe to Sydney.
