Then you might do better to fly those other carriers. Sales, promotions and the like are meant to drive customer behavior. Each airline is trying to accomplish something different with its sales and promotions. Each airline develops and implements its own strategy.

That's actually entirely the norm with QR when they fly from various cities within a country like Italy, the UK, or Germany: TXL will be cheaper than MUC to one city but more expensive to another, LHR will be cheaper than MAN to X but more expensive to Y, etc.

I agree the month validity is a bit annoying. Before, it was less systematic but in recent sales it seems to have become the norm.

$800 1 month ticket vs $1100 3 month normal price ticket earning more on my ffp, so yes the sales fare are not necessarily helping earn more miles or status points than regular fares published either or qr or other airlines, while giving a much greater flexibility.

Thanks orbitmic

I am just letting you guys know that I actually got a full refund from QR after paying USD100 for the cancellation fee so it is all good now!

One more thing, can anyone please explain the 4x promotion to me as I am a bit confused about how it works? I am currently a gold member of QAPC and will fly to LHR soon.

DOH - LHR of Business Promo (R) = 12,976 Qmiles

With 4x promotion, does it mean that I would receive 51,904 Qmiles (12,976 * 4) after the completion of DOH - LHR return? Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks heaps for your help!

kkt228 while you normally earn 12976 Qmiles this includes your Tier bonus. Your base miles are 8110 = 6488 great circle miles * 1.25 booking class bonus.
Thus you will earn 12976 + 4 * 8110 = 45416 Qmiles

The tier bonus is 75% of the 6488 great circle miles between DOH and LHR = 4866.

This is as described on http://www.qatarairways.com/Privileg...ge?mid=4&sid=1, http://www.qatarairways.com/Privileg...ge?mid=4&sid=1 and http://www.qatarairways.com/Privileg...ge?mid=3&sid=4.

I think this would be the value for a 5x rather than a 4x promo since you factored in both the original fare miles as well as the original fare miles times the promo multiplier.

So for 4x it would be: 6488*(1.25*4+.75) = 37306 (Distance * (FareMultiplier * PromoMultiplier + TierMultiplier).

Correct me if I'm wrong, this would mean more upcoming Qmiles that I anticipated

makrom there are two different, completely separate, parts to the calculation.
First you will receive the 'standard' miles for your flight as normal.
second you will be awarded four time your base miles. Your base miles are the great circle miles times the booking class factor So the second part of the miles awarded is 4 * 6488 * 1.25.This is in addition to the standard 12976.
Your tier bonus is only used in the first part and has nothing to do with base miles.

If you look at your PC statement, not your activities, these are itemised there.

Wait, so you are saying that a 4x promo means I'll get 4x miles on top of the regular miles (aka 5x miles total, plus regular tier bonus)? I'm not the least bit opposed to that, just largely surprised, I was pretty sure 4x promo meant I'll get 4x miles in total, not on top.

Yes it is a bonus to be added to you 'normal' Qmiles. Were QR to take your normal Qmiles into account it would only be a 3X bonus.

Indeed, but I thought thats what it said. They phrase it like "earn quadruple Qmiles", not "earn a quadruple Qmiles bonus" (on top of your regular Qmiles). But wouldn't exactly be the first time QRs wording was off. I guess that means 2017 has another 60k Qmiles coming for me then.

Just checked my statement for the Travel Festival Triple Miles promo for flights I took in March. In my case it's credited as triple miles in total - eg:

Flight Earn 3415
Qatar Airways Travel Festival 6830
Tier Bonus 2732

But it's not a bonus, it's a promotion. 4X miles means just that.

makrom and purple1addict are correct.

This is for a flight using: Qatar Airways: 'Fly in Premium Class and earn double Qmiles Book, save and earn bonus Qmiles'

23 Feb 2017 Flight Earn - QR*/QR816/DOH-HKG/23-FEB- 2017 35 4,890
Qatar Airways Travel Festival - Potential Executives 9,780
Tier Bonus: 2934 2,934

Does it not show 4890 earned PLUS 2*4890 extra miles?

Sounds like consistency la QR to me.

Anyway, I just keep an open mind for my upcoming flights and take whatever I'll get. Either way, I won't feel like they didn't give me enough miles.
I even heard from someone who got 6x through getting the bonus of both a 3x and 4x promo (1x from regular + 2x from 3x promo + 3x from 4x promo).
