QR and BA partnership

Dear Mr Zainman

Effective 2nd September 2013, Qatar Airways and British Airways will enter into a frequent flyer partnership. As a Privilege Club member, you will now have the opportunity to earn Qmiles on all qualifying British Airways flights.

Qmiles can be earned on all flights with a British Airways flight number and being operated by British Airways.

You will earn up to 150% of Qmiles flown depending on the booking class (type of fare) you purchase. For more details, please click here

British Airways is one of the world’s leading airlines and part of the International Airlines Group. Based at London Heathrow, it is the airport’s major operator with approximately 50 per cent of flights to and from the airport.

A founding member and an integral part of the successful oneworld alliance, the airline has a fleet of 240 aircraft and operates over 300,000 flights per year to over 160 different cities worldwide.

What’s more, you will also be able to redeem your Qmiles for award tickets on all British Airways flights effective 1st October 2013. To learn more, please click here

Take advantage of this highly rewarding partnership and experience the spectacular benefits of being a Privilege Club member.

Isn't this redundant as soon as QR joins OW any day now? What am I missing here?

No Qpoints earned from BA flights? Would this also be the case when QR joins OW?

And vice-versa: can we earn BAEC TPs flying QR?

well may be this is the first step of integration? if i recall, BA is the QR sponsor to join OW right?

There is news that the joining date will be October 2013.

Also make sense after BA/QF "divorce". QF goes with EK and BA goes with QR. Just change the F to R

Yes. But this interesting and somewhat unusual and unexpected intervening period commences on Monday - and we don't know exactly how long it will last.

Was just searching on ba.com to find out whether one can earn BA miles for QR flights. Nothing there yet it seems, or did I miss something?

BA have not yet announced any reciprocal rights.

If oneworld entry is in October, then it is possible that they will hold off until QR actually is in the alliance. And yes, I know it is highly unusual to have a one-sided earning arrangement for the period of even a few weeks.

My first impression is that this is not good news for an Oct OW full intergation date. But lets see, we should be expecting an announcement in 15-30 days regarding OW from QR.

And Business Traveller now quotes a BA rep asked for comment that BAEC members will be able to earn Avios on QR flights as and from Monday.

No Tier Point earning, of course, until QR joins oneworld.

Even on BA coded flights?

When QR And AA entered a similar agreement, AA fliers earn tier miles as long as the flight is booked on AA flight numbers. Perhaps this is the case with BA too?

BAEC flyers earn Avios - and Tier Points - on all BA-coded flights, regardless of what airline operates the service.

BA and QR do not have any codeshares.
