tax / fee refund ??
Hello and good morning,
just a quick question. I hope somebody can help me. We've booked 3 flights from Melbourne to Denpasar for September 09 with airmiles. All fees have also been paid already. We've changed our mind now due to the latest attack in Jakarta and would like to cancel the flights. Do we get the airmiles back ? What about airport taxes and fees ? Thanks. Kind regards Blanchertstown |
"airmiles"? Have you booked with Qantas using QF points ?
You can phone Qantas and ask. |
Do you have travel insurance? Travel insurance would more than likely cover any cancellation fees involved.

Hi there,
thanks for the quick respond. Yes, we've booked a Qantas flight with Qantas air miles. Of course I can call Qantas, but I was told by a travel agent that for any help over the phone Qantas will charge a fee which will be covered by more air miles. I just try to avoid that and was hoping somebody has been in the same situation. The other answer has to be NO. I don't think we have travel insurance. I don't even know if their offer something like that when you book a flight with air miles. It's worth finding out for the next flight ;). Maybe we can just change the destination and they don't have to give me a refund. Thanks Kind regards Blanch |
Qantas use the term points, not airmiles for the frequent flyer program

I would be surprised if insurance would cover fees incurred due to "change of mind" unless they specifically allow claims in the case of terrorism.
The airline may allow changes if there is an immediate threat or there has been a government travel advisory (but neither of these exist AFAIK). If you have used FF points for an award booking and want to change the destination, QF will regard this as a cancel and rebooking where you will still pay the same cancel fee (5000 points) as if you just cancelled outright. Cash (CC) contribution for extras (fines, taxes etc) should be refunded to the CC that originally paid for the booking. |

Note that if you had been travelling to Jakata on or before 21st July, the following would apply: |
Based on recently upgraded travel advisories for Indonesia, I think you'll find QF sympathetic to your situation. It doesn't hurt to call and ask, and it certainly won't cost you.
