upgrade question
 
If your travelling on BA in economy or Premium, can you use your Qantas points to upgrade to business? I tried doing this today, spoke to Qantas and they told me it wasnt possible to use your Qantas miles to use an upgrade on any other airline but Qantas? Was shocked to hear this was the case? Is that def right? anyone know?!

To request an upgrade using your points you'll need to have an eligible paid and confirmed ticket on a Qantas operated service with a QF flight number.
(emphasis added)

BA has a similar policy - BA miles can only be used to upgrade on BA (or BA partner) flights.

This is a shock quite a few get when you are used to Star Alliance and the ability to use your miles almost anywhere.

The only program which allows upgrades on more than the home carrier within OW is Asia Miles of CX.
