Would WPs be able to request it more than 7 days in advance though, as long as they are prepared to pay?

See the following bolding:

And yes Qantas acknowledges that it was a privilege offered to Platinums but they are now removing that benefit although we still have priority check-in and preferred seating although that is available to Silver members as well. ...
So WP's cannot request before that 7 day window according to that.

OK. That's pretty sad then.

Why they could not at least let WPs retain their priority but charging for it like everyone else is beyond me.

Any thoughts on whether passengers booked on an AA code-share are eligible to pay for exit row seating?

There's nothing in the link in futaris' post #96 to indicate not.

There is now an "Exit row booking FAQ" on the QF agents website: http://www.qantas.com.au/agents/dyn/...eatg170609.pdf . I was interested to note this at the end:
22. Are Chairmans Lounge members still able to be pre-seated in exit rows at no cost?
Chairmans Lounge members will continue to have the opportunity to access exit row seating at no charge.
23. Who has priority access to exit row seats – Chairmans Lounge members or passengers purchasing an exit row seat?
The allocation of Exit Row seats will be on a first come first serve basis, whether the passenger is purchasing the seat or whether a Chairmans Lounge member requests an exit row seat at no charge
So it's just us poor Plats who are getting done over..

A bit OT, but how come the document quotes "ATSB guidelines" for exit row pax suitability? The ATSB has nothing to do with that, it's CASA, I thought?

be able to reach open, lift and throw out the 15kg (33lb) exit door in an
emergency;
I also find this interesting - I thought a 767 over wing exit door weighed 27 kg from memory?

And if it was a 738, you'd have to rip the door off its top hinges to throw it clear.

LOL, that's true! I didn't notice the 'throw out' bit.

I think they need to do a bit of re-working (certainly about the ATSB bit).

Note the following:

Flights operated by Boeing 734 or 738 aircraft, flights from Japan to Australia, flights between Australia and Noumea and all trans-Tasman flights are excluded.

Also according to the agency page there is no refund if you request an exit but are later upgraded.

I would actually question the legality of taking payment for something which you then then have influence over and don't deliver.

The main people this will hurt is platinums. They fly frequently and now have to pay $$ to get the comfort of exit rows. They then have a better chance of being upgraded and lose the $$.

Not a good way to foster customer loyalty.

Am I missing something here or does this discussion only apply to economy?

From the QF web site:
Enjoy the extra legroom of an exit row seat, now available to book for an additional amount on most Qantas operated international flights in Economy, subject to availability.* Available to all customers who satisfy the exit row seat requirements and conditions of exit row seat bookings.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how the revenue from "exit row for sale" is going?
